Q.
Air Conditioner: Cold Air blowing hard out the PVC Drain?
I have a brand new house and all summer long have had problems with my air conditioner. I was in my attic tonight and noticed that there is cold air blowing hard (harder than it blows out of the vents in my house) out of the PVC drain pipe. The pipe comes out of the AC unit and T's immediately. The bottom portion of the T forms a "U" and then runs Parallel with the ground and goes out of the attic. The top portion of the "T" is open and that is where the extremely ... (Asked by ajaxstroud23)

only a few things can cause what you have explained,,, the one most often is the coil is stopped up,,,needs cleaned or the filter is stopped up,,, causeing blow back, the second thing is ,,, that the coil has been placed on the wrong side of the air handler, mabe there was not room to put it in the return side so they installed it in the supply side,,,, this sounds like what you have,,, this is installed wrong,,, you will have alot of problems out of it,,, it will become stopped up very often and you are very likely ...(Answered by technician68)

Q.
Central Air, Air Condition Troubles?
hello, I'm having a central air , air condition trouble. When I turn the thermostat too cool, the fan turns on, the outside condensor spins the fan, so everything turns on. Problem is no cold air out of the vents in the house. I went to check the condensor while it was running, INstead of blowing out warm air, it is blowing out cool air. Any Ideas? Actually whats is the heat pump and what is a 3,4,5 wire system for the thermostat. When I go outside the outside unit is on, which includes the fan. The thing is the fan instead of blowing warm air ... (Asked by Termi)

Your condenser fan and compressor normally will come on together. However, if you have compressor problems, your condenser fan will run by itself that sounds like the most likely problem. If your machine never worked from day one, you could have any number of problems, but it sounds like it did work and now you're having problems. If that's the case, you can all but rule out a miswiring situation. The wiring was probably fine from the beginning when it ran and I'm sure no one touched it. If you know a little about electrical work, you may be able ...(Answered by chump)

Q.
Is it possible to plumb a washing machine into an airing cupboard?
Hi, I live in a very small flat, and to save space, I'm thinking about trying to put the washing machine in what is currently the airing cupboard. Though I don't use it as an airing cupboard, so the space is pretty much wasted at the moment. Obviously being an airing cupboard, it's fairly warm (but dry); but it houses a little bolier rather than a water tank so there is certainly space - (and water pipes). Does anyone know if this is/might be feasible or unutterably stupid? ... (Asked by vkl20)

It's very feasible. A house I lived in had a bedroom closet plumbed for an apartment size stackable washer / dryer because the owner had gotten to old to climb up & down her basement stairway to do her laundry. If you live in an upper flat you will need to determine where the current plumbing is & where it has to go so as not to interfere with the plumbing of the flats below you....(Answered by smilindave1)

Q.
Air Conditioner Condensation Problem?
I have baseboard heating and force-air central air that has the ducts and air handler in our attic. What has been happening, with the weather getting colder, the ducts in the attic are forming condensation inside and are causing condensation which drips out of the vents in our ceiling. What can be done to solve this condensation problem? With all the moisture forming, it will eventually cause the air handler to rust. ... (Asked by FieldMate)

I’m confident the central air in the attic was added after the home was built (and insulated). Even if the ducts themselves are insulated, the do not have enough insulation around them to prevent the warm air in the home from condensing as it rises into the ceiling registers/boots. Worse than the condensation is the mold that may grow over the winter. Rarely can you ever get attic ductwork insulated enough to prevent this. On a new home, you can generally get the insulated ductwork at the lowest point in the attic and get nearly a ...(Answered by frogpaws)

Obviously you have a leaking (possibly pinpoint leak) at a joint. You can buy a flexible hardening compound that you mix and then smear round the joint and it hardens to provide a seal, otherwise you need a plumber. Left untreated this could manifest itself into a larger problem. i.e. floorboards, ceiling etc not just damage to your clothing/linen etc. Prevention is better than cure!!...(Answered by saintee)

Air Conditioning Question. I'm receiving very cold air on my main floor but not through the upstairs vents?
I have a 5 year old house that's about 2200sq. ft. I have floor vents. I get good air flow through the floor vents in the basement and on the main level. Also getting good air in one of the bedrooms upstairs. I get very slight cooling in two additional rooms upstairs (but not air conditioning cold by any means). Lastly the biggest room upstairs (the master bedroom) which has 3 air vents is a sweat box. No air flow whatsoever. Any ideas? I changed the furnace filter, but no improvement. ... 1) if there is an attic space check to see if its cold in there. if so your ducts may be cut or have a hole in them. this can happen after a long time just due to bad installation. 2) feel the wall where the ducts might be. if the wall feels cold, and you think there's a duct inside, there ya go. 3) check the plenum. the plenum may have several main ducts leaving from it. One main ducts may be blocked either by dust and dirt over time, or if there is a hole in one of the ducts, insulation ...(Answered by virtualscientist01)

Remove air from hot water pipes?
I seem to have a problem with air in my hot water pipes. There is a very loud rushing sound every now & then (seems to be either when the pump switches on/off) I have checked all radiators and they are all free from air. The hot water system is indirect, a coil runs through the hot water cylinder in the loft. The boiler is an old Ideal one which has four pipes entering it, 2 for heating and 2 for hot water. There are also 2 pumps, 1 for heating & 1 for hot water. I can't see any ... (Asked by Mark C)

air has to be entering system at pump supply do you have a prssure tank in system prior to boiler tank ? possibly too much air volume in tank allowing air to enter pipes as volume in tank is lowered.Could also be defective bleed valve allowing air to be sucked into system as pressure lowers prior to pump engaging. A bad check valve could be allowing water to drain back into well causing air to be pulled into system thru bad bleed valve or open spigot Hope this helps or at least gives you some ideas to check ...(Answered by Richard E)

Q.
Home Air Exchange?
If my natural home air exchange through infiltration and exfiltration is 1 air exchange per hour with insulation, and the temperature outside is 30 and inside is 70, how come after I turn off my furnace for an hour does the temperature not drop to 30 as the air outside. If the air exchange rate is 1 per hour, shouldn't this occur regardless of insulation as fresh air outside the house is repacing warm air inside my house at a rate of 1 exchange per hour. ... Your house has a lot of thermal mass - all of that 70 degree sheetrock and 70 degree floor tile holds a lof of heat. A house volume of 30 degree air has little thermal mass and can be pulled up to say 65 while pulling the mass of the house down to only 65. Also, so you get one house volume of air exchanged per hour, but it's not evenly distributed. Bet you get a cold spot or two that's real close to 30....(Answered by Michael P)

you need to replace all of these valves they are spring retarded relief valves . over time they wear out but replacing one at a time will just continue the problem.....the next in line becomes the weakest link in the chain... also if you replace them have a boiler technician come out and reduse the allowable pressure going into the heater units...(Answered by Bert W)
