Q.
Water heater (AO Smith, power vented) gives me error code "Error in the hot surface igniter circuit"
Water heater in a rental unit was off for several weeks; now when it's been turned on it is giving an error code that translates to "Error in the hot surface ignitor circuit." The manual says to: 1) Check that all wiring is correct and secure; and 2) Replace hot surface ignitor. Nothing has changed with the wiring, so the logical answer would seem to be that I need to replace the hot surface ignitor--but the water heater is only 18 months old. The manufacturer will do a service call, but I have to pay for the ... (Asked by Jim A)

Right beside the hot surface igniter you will see the flame sensor, make sure there is nothing touching the sensor. A small piece of lint or soot can ground the sensor. Be careful not to touch the igniter as they are very fragile. Do a visual inspection of the igniter and if it appears cracked or broken it will need to be replaced....(Answered by dfiler2)

Once you get the tire/rim off, you'll have to take crowbar (flat head screwdriver might work) and pop the tire off the rim. If the leak is slow, I'd opt for slime....(Answered by 572ci.)

It sounds like you have made all the right steps so far, the only other thing is to make sure that the burner is properly adjusted (not overheating). Check the t&p valve if you can safely do so, to make sure it is operable and that you don’t have steam in the top of your tank. Also if you replaced the anode, go ahead and drain some water off the drain tap to make sure you have no aluminum residue from the original anode. I will assume that you have consistent water pressure in the 60-65 psi range, and that ...(Answered by lpgnh3)
