Q.

Austin (my hometown, btw) is still growing by leaps & bounds... we're not anywhere near capacity yet and being a regular Money Magazine "Best Places To Live" means our growth is expected to continue for quite some time. While any decision to buy is neighborhood/subdivision dependent, and highly personal to boot, if you plan on being in the greater Austin metropolitan area for three or more years, it'd be silly to not get a foothold in the real estate market ASAP. Buy now... homes are appreciating between 4%-10% per YEAR and it doesn't make financial sense to continue renting for another year. Hope ...(Answered by TX-Griff)

In a little while I'd be out of the service and planning to move to Austin, TX. I have never been there (I used to live in Dallas, TX though) and I do not have friends in that city either. It depends on what you're used to and what sort of lifestyle that you're looking for. I love South Austin. It's close to downtown, and has all sorts of funky and eclectic shops and restaurants. North Austin and Northwest Austin are more modern, and probably have a wider array of apartments and complexes in different price tiers. The apartments in these areas might be good for you, as many are geared toward young single students and professionals. Some activities include poolside BBQ's and parties so that you can get to know your neighbors. Check out an online apartment locationg site, or www.austinchronicle.com ...(Answered by Deleted)

A.
Of course it is. If the topsoil in the area is thin and rests on rock, digging a basement will be very expensive, but not impossible. In my part of the country, builders routinely go to great lengths to dig (and sometimes blast) through limestone formations in order to build homes with basements. Good luck with your home....(Answered by exbuilder)

I live in Austin, and there is black slime in my water. What the hell is this?
If there is a place in my apartment that water can stand for even a day or two (like in the toilet, etc.) black slime forms in the water. If I leave even a very small puddle of water in my sink and leave for a weekend, when I get back, a ring of black slime has formed. This is in Austin, Texas. What IS this crud and should I be worried about my drinking water?!! ... (Asked by mrchowwow)

Heck, there are lot and lots of neighborhoods to chose from! West lake is great, older but very desirable neighborhood Forest Creek in Round Rock is fine, has a golf course Lake Travis area is naturally, scenic, on the lake, depends on where the job is but you are indeed fortunate to move into one of the best areas of Texas, both in terms of the natural environment and the vibrant economy. Good luck!...(Answered by BlueCollarMan)
