My Baseboard Heater is making a ticking sound? Even after I turned the breaker switch off?
It has me a little worried and confused. I was lying in bed trying to go to sleep and kept hearing a ticking/buzzing sound by my bed. Turned out it was coming from my baseboard heater. I turned off the heat, still didn't stop. I turned off the breaker switch to all the heat in my apartment, still didn't stop. What could it be? How do I get it to stop? I tapped and banged on it a little bit, looked to see if anything was stuck inside, nothing. and it is on a wall that is not connected to ... (Asked by Peace) |

Baseboard heaters are constructed differently in as much as what type of heating method is used beneath the cover you are banging on. Some have an electric element that heat a chenical such as glycol while some have just a heating element.
I am assuming yours is the non-glycol type because that crackling sound is more prevalent with that type in the manner of which you have described.
First, you must disengage the electric to the baseboard heater and do so at the main breaker panel. DO NOT...I repeat...DO NOT...RELY ON THAT WALL SWITCH OR THERMOSTAT to disengage electric to ...(Answered by farplaces) |

Why does the breaker for my basement lights/outlets keep tripping?
I have a PC, Monitor,Modem, TV, Cable box and a mini-fridge plugged in. I go to plug in the Christmas tree lights and the breakers trips. I unplug the Christmas tree lights and reset the breaker. I go into the laundry/storage room (also in the basement.) Turn on the light switch and the breaker trips again. Reset the breakers and experienced no troubles the rest of the night. Do I have too much power going on and not enough power to support it?

it sounds like your trying to run to much on one circuit, if you could plug the frig. into another outlet which is not on the same circuit your problem would probably go away, or if you don't have one i say get another breaker and run another circuit to your basement for the frig. from what you say that's what would be pulling the most amperage on that circuit, you see it trips because the wiring heats up and causes the breaker to trip prior to starting a fire, if the breaker malfunctions a fire could result....jack...(Answered by jack) |

My airconditioner keeps tripping the circuit breaker in my house?
I live in Las Vegas it is 116 degrees, I must use my a/c. In the two days the a/c trips the circuit breaker to the house, turning off everything and sending a surge. (I really am worried about the computers and tvs when this happens) I rent, and my landlord replaced the wiring box 5 months ago, but now the wires are black again. I know he needs to buy a new a/c but won't. Any suggestions on how to prevent the tripping of the circuit?

not much you can do, the bottom line is that the AC is drawing more amperage (more electric current) than the circuit is designed to handle, so the breaker trips.
If you rent and the AC unit is part of your rental (not something you put in) then just demand that the landlord get it fixed, he will either need to put in a more energy efficient AC unit or re-wire the circuit with better wires and a larger breaker so it can handle the load created by the AC unit.
For now you might try running the AC unit at less ...(Answered by SmartA$$) |

A 20 amp circuit breaker can be loaded up to 1920 watts or close to that before being over loaded. It's been a while since I've done load calculations. This would include ALL fixtures and devices on the circuit.
Keep in mind not to overload the fixture, but I would say most flood lights should be fine at 50 watts check the rating on the fixture. Many outdoor fixtures can handle 100 watts and more. Be sure they're a safe distance from anything flammable. The higher watts equals higher temperatures....(Answered by papercutfaint) |
