I'm thinking about buying land myslef and building a new house in New Jersey. Can someone recommend a good homebuilder? Also, websites where I can find Land? Thanks. A.
I cannot recommend any builder's in New Jersey as I'm from the Midwest, but it was suggested to me to check with local lumber yards in the building materials area. Those folks work with builders everyday and may be able to give you the names of a few reputable contractors. I checked at the big chain lumberyards as the smaller privately owned stores and ended up with a few names to look into for my own home. Also check with your local building department. They may be able to provide the names of builder's who have built in the area...especially ...(Answered by Mickey)

Any good crew would lay drop cloths down, mess in unavoidable in some areas. If you are having your windows replaced there will be alot of dust, nothing you can do. I mean I have hired contractors to install new wiring systems in occupied units before there is only a point to which mess can be control. However, since you have not specified what kind of mess I can not be more specific. Email me at e_barker@yahoo.com...(Answered by Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth)

Q.
if builders work off architects scaled drawings and the measurements are incorrect, who is liable?"?
My builders say the architect is liable as the drawing does not state to remeasure - the architect says the builder should have measured before ordering steels. ... (Asked by lulapu)

A.
It's a potentially complicated issue. Builders dealing with existing conditions should measure those conditions before beginning work and should take responsibility for the accuracy. If you're doing all new work, it's the builder's responsibility to get the measurements right. If the architect put down dimensions that caused conflicts in the builder's work, the architect would be at fault. I don't know what the project is, but remember how much you pay the builder versus how much you pay the architect. Which one do you think deserves more responsibility?...(Answered by Wilton P)

A.
If in town, check with the city hall. I've had to get permits before. They'll want a detailed set of drawings showing property lines, streets, sidewalks, buildings, alleys, and so on. They'll also want detailed drawings of the fence construction, what it will be made of, how it is anchored, the works. You can draw them yourself, if you have a fair hand for it. But it all depends on the city. If you live outside the city limits, the county seat will have the information. It may be you won't need a permit, but as big as Little Rock ...(Answered by fishing66833)

The same problems that they have with "stick" houses, most of the time it's with clients and their whims. Some people want more for their money then they should be getting and then there's the "please, just for me" type. We also have the "just this once type" and there's the very nasty one that comes in and threatens you. We have just about the same clientele as anyone else and it takes a Saint to make them feel good again....(Answered by cowboydoc)

Any home builders, contractors, construction workers, or people who have build a house out there?
Getting ready to build a new home. Have hired an architect to draw the plans for us. We know that the house is going to be a 2-story "farmhouse" as it is being built on quite a bit of land. We have 2 small children under the age of 7. We built the home that we currently live in now without much thought and research and I hate it. It id definitely NOT kid-friendly.
