I have an Aquasana AQ4100 shower filter. Is there anyway I can empty the cartridge so i dont have to replace? Is there anything I could do so i dont have to buy a new cartridge every 6 months. Remove it and hose it off with a garden hose. If this isn't working try a power washer. Regular old dish soap will help, just make sure to rinse it out completely or you'll have bubbles in your pool....(Answered by Lauren)

Hmmmm. Well cartridge filters come in all sorts of sizes. The things to keep in mind are size of pump, frequency of cleaning, and replacement cartridge cost. Size of pump is important because you don't want to UNDERsize the filter. Typically cartridge filters work on a flow rate of 1 gallon per minute per square foot of filter surface. There is some variation, however. DO NOT buy one too small for the pump horsepower. Frequency of cleaning depends on the size of the cartridge. Larger filters require less frequent cleaning. It's quite possible to go to a larger pump and filter. It's not something I suggest a homeowner to do, but a Pool tech can do this easily. As someone had pointed out, the suction and return side needs to go to 1 1/2 inch . Getting a through wall fitting to do this is actually easy and they are avaliable. It can be done easily with no leaks, providing you know what you're doing or you get a pool tech in. I would try to find a 800 phone number from the company who made the pool and call them. I bought my children an above ground pool several years ago and that's how I had to end up buying the filters. I even went to some local pool stores and they didn't have them.
