Q.
What are good neighborhoods to live in the Cleveland, OH area?
I am considering a move to Cleveland Ohio for a job relocation, but I have never been there so I am not sure what areas are "safe" or "decent". I am young and single but would like to buy a home. Any neighborhood recommendations? If it's any help I'd be working in the 44116 zip code. Driving distance isn't a big issue. ... (Asked by coranitlith)

Where is the best, safest area to rent in Cleveland?
I'll be moving to Cleveland in a few months. I'm not real familiar with the area. I've heard the Coventry area is nice, also Shaker Heights, and possibly Lakewood. The cities that you mentioned can be pretty hit or miss in terms of what you are looking for. All three of them have parks, shops, and restaraunts nearby. However, depending on where you are within the city, be it Clev hts, Shaker hts, or Lakewood, you can get some really really nice places, or some fairly ghetto places. For example, in Shaker Hts, you will see half million dollar homes two blocks away from fifty thousand dollar homes. What I would recommend is looking into Mayfield Hts, Willoughby, or Lyndhurst, which are pretty dependably priced, ...(Answered by Gregory K)

My sister loved living in Cleveland. She worked downtown and lived on the West side (first in Lakewood and then in Rocky River) she went against the traffic to get to work so she never had delays. I loved visiting the city. The rent and home prices are pretty average with the rest of the mid-west (Michigan, Ohio and Indiana). Everything was easy to get to and in and around. Lakewood has rent from $395 (studio) up to 1400 (house or luxury apartment). Home prices are the same you can find something cheap up to high end on the lake ...(Answered by mldjay)

Many places... depends on what you are looking for... Parma is probably the safest/closest community to downtown - South of downtown and a bit west - lots of local type places - many rentals. Being the Midwest - there are less MASS complexes and more individual landlords who rent homes and duplexes. I'd suggest doing a search on mean income or mean housing prices, or mean homeownerships in the cleveland area which will give you an overview....(Answered by brettmansdorf)

Have you tried Shaker Square? A kind of cool neighborhood on the Cleveland/Shaker Heights border, young, liberal, integrated, easy Rapid train to downtown. Other young professionals, even with kids, live there - but you do need some street smarts in that general neighborhood. Avoid apartments in Euclid and anywhere east of there. Not for young professionals. Tremont and otherwise downtown is definitely the place to be, lots of cool lofts and apartments close to great bars and restaurants, etc, but it is not cheap down there. You might find something in Coventry, but parking will be a challenge. You ...(Answered by Snow)
