When installing a ductless, minisplit air conditioner, can it be done without purging, and just connect?
The mini split ac's come precharged with freon. this allows one to just install the unit, and connect the lines. it states to purge, or evacuate the system after the lines are connected. the only air would be from the actual 15' lines that were connected. will the ac run good without be purged or evacuated? this ductless system is new, and ive heard people installing them without fancy equipment. id like to know if i can get good cooling, without the hvac tools. what do you guys think? ... The water meter should have a shut off valve on the city side of the meter(emergency cut off) Most meters output (customer side) have a 1" or 3/4" female slip joint. If yours is 1" you will need a 1" gasket or o ring a 1" male; a reducer to 3/4" a small piece of 1" pvc,a small piece of 3/4" pvc pipe; a 3/4"male pvc and a hose bib.(or you can put a ball valve before the 3/4" male)(a hose is same as 3/4"npt thread) some teflon tape and a small can of glue (pvc) If you'll look at ...(Answered by paulofhouston)

Q.
I'm running electrical wiring from inside my house to the outside. What do I connect the indoor conduit to?
I'm running my romex wiring inside conduit from the breaker box, but am not sure what I need to do once I poke the wiring out of the basement wall. I've actually hired an electrician to do the job, but am trying to do as much as possible to hopefully lower the overall bill. The big thing is I'd like to have the inside work all done, but just don't know what I need to connect the inside conduit to at the outside wall. ... (Asked by Steve M)

A.
The threaded end of the conduit from outside passes through the concrete wall and into a metal junction box. A nut on both sides of the junction box secures the conduit to the box. The box is secured to the concrete wall by using a masonry bit & drill to drill into the concrete wall and by screwing masonry screws directly into the hole. These look like small lag screws, specially hardened for concrete applications. (Home Depot) You will need an insulating bushing (to be legal) that screws onto the sharp end of the conduit (inside the ...(Answered by Johnny A)

Q.
Can I connect a gas stove to a gas dryer hookup?
When we bought our house, we were told we only had a electric hookup for the laundry closet, which is in the kitchen. However, after moving in, I have noticed that there is copper piping with an end cap in the laundry closet that looks identical to the piping that connects the gas to the water heater and furnace elsewhere in the house (but there is no shutoff valve, only an endcap). Can I connect a gas stove to this, assuming it is a gas hookup? Or is the gas supply for dryers different than a gas ... (Asked by amazon cheryl)

A.
If your gas is natural gas, you can loosen the cap until it's almost off to see if gas is available. Normally the natural gas pipe to the range is 1/2" or larger. If you find that there is gas in the line you can install a shutoff valve and extend the line as needed. If the copper line is 3/8" or smaller I would forget about using it for a range. You can install a line from the meter area. Go up and into the attic and over to where you need to be. Drop inside, if you can ...(Answered by Huero)

Q.
Can I use the chimney liner from my old gas boiler to connect a wood burning stove to?
Is the chimney liner that was on my old gas boiler ok to connect a wood burning stove to or do I need to get a new flue. It is a steel concetina type flue liner. ... (Asked by four1302002)
View Entire Question | Report Abuse | Similar Questions | See it in Y!
A.
You cannot use the flue from your gas boiler because the wood burner is a greater heat than the gas boiler. The flue for a gas boiler actually is not all that hot. Your woodburner should work quite well without any flue. To remove the old flue, which is advisable. you will have to pull it from the chimney by getting on the roof to withdraw it. A woodburner will cause a lot of wood ash in the chimney and may want frequent cleaning....(Answered by nosdda)

Hi To the best of my memory here is how it SHOULD go... G = Green (ground?) Y = Blue (don't ask why) (fan or blower?) w = white (Neutral?) rh = red - heat (hot to heat term at furnace) rc = red - cooling (Hot to cooling term (A/C) at furnace) Now, that said, the question marks are because there is not always standard wiring. Best way is to check the other end of that thermostat wire where it comes out at the furnace. It will go into a control box. Take a flash light. Pull the cover off of that control box and check which ...(Answered by Gilley)

first figure out the colors of the wires. green = ground black or red = hot white = neutral on the fixture or "light" the place for the hot wire will be a brass color. on the neutral it will be silver. put the black or red wire on the brass screw and the white one on the silver screw. you may have the wires crossed. make sure the switch and the breaker are off before you go messing around with the wires, or you could be in for some pain....(Answered by staqk3)
