Stuck jar lid?
I have an old jar/jug that was used by my mother for years to hold her sugar. The jar lid has been screwed on and cross threaded. How can I get this dang lid off? ... (Asked by babygirl)

Put the whole thing in the freezer for a half hour. Get a dishcloth or small towel, moisten it and wring it out. Heat the dishcloth in the microwave for 30 seconds. Get the jar out of the freezer and then drape the dishcloth around the lid to warm it up - only touching the lid! This should shrink the jar and expand the lid enough to open it. Also, the moist towel may help you grip the lid better....(Answered by Mr. Nozalott)

I took apart an old but good conditionstainless steel P trap, despite gaskets+pipe dope, it still leaks.Ideas?
I attempted to use the old gaskets and pipe dope to seal the threads, but the dang thing still leaks. Do you need to replace all gaskets every time you take apart a plumbed line? Do I need to use plumbers putty instead of pipe dope? any help would be excellent! ... (Asked by mateo)

What appears to be a "good" P-trap may have been ruined by overtightening, which it sounds like in this case. Once the fitting has been overtightened, no amount of pipe dope, sealers, or fresh gaskets will fix it. Generally speaking, traps need only be hand tight plus a quarter-turn. I agree with the PVC replacement solution. Cheap, and very long lived....(Answered by Hank)

How much could I buy wood for?
