Q.
Old Washer Without Delicate Cycle Option?
I moved into an older house with an old washing machine. It's probably from the 80's or early 90's. The brand is KitchenAid. It does not have a handwash or delicate cycle--it only offers the normal, permanent press, and quick cycles. How do I wash my delicates without destroying them? Of course, I do not want to handwash eveything. I checked the KitchenAid website and, no suprise, this model is not sold anymore. Thanks. ... (Asked by Inuinuluver)

I hear you. I turn the knob to regular cycle, and fill the tub to it's lowest setting for the water to cover the clothes, and then stop the cycle letting the clothes soak instead of toss around. Liquid soap is best. Then I turn the knob to make the water drain. Next I turn the knob to rinse, fill it, and let it soak for a while, then I turn the knob to spin. This dries up the clothes without agitation. Works for me, silks, wools, etc. Best of luck to you!...(Answered by whrldpz)

What do the different settings on a dryer mean? (Regualar, Perm Press, Delicate)?
What do the different settings on a dryer mean? (Regualar, Perm Press, Delicate) I want to try that! How do I find a negative Ion? ... (Asked by Cade)

A.
Regular means normal heat range. Perm press means a lighter heat to give the garment a stress free cling wrinkle free look. Delicate is a again a light heat. Believe this or not, if you wash in cold water and hang dry your garment it will get stiff and you want to know why??? because the garment or cloth has not been given heat to rid it of ions! The neutrons remains on the garment. Ever heard of static garments:) Place a positive neurton against your clothes and listen to it pop with static becasue you are discharging those negative neurons....(Answered by cristanine)

Q.
Handwashing Delicates?
How do you get deoderant off of delicates when you hand wash them? I have been using an all-natural detergent, would something like Woolite work better? I live in an apartment and have to pay $1 for every wash cycle. It's not worth it for my relatively few delicate items, so I would prefer to wash them in my sink if possible. ... I hand wash using that new Oxy and Woolite but I do it in the washing machine. I let the tank fill with cold water only - put the Woolite in and swish the water around it will distribute. Then I put the delicates in the water and let them sit - NO agitation. After they have soaked for a time I spin the soapy water out and fill the tub with clean water - let the delicates sit in the clean water and kind of whisk them around with my hands and then spin the water ...(Answered by REnate)

Q.
What is the difference between the permanent press and delicate cycles on a wasing machine?
I know permenant press refers to the chemically treated fabric to resist wrinkles, but I don't know how the machine treats these fabrics differently. I assume that the permanent press cycle is more "delicate" than the normal cycle, but is it more "delicate" than the delicate or hand wash cycle? ... (Asked by SoCalBoy)

the delicate cycle is for the little things like silk stockings and undies,,, the agitator does not twist back and forth in this cycle so these don't get stretched or ripped!! the perma press cycle uses lower hot water temps and the agitator is gentler!!...(Answered by fuzzykjun)

Q.
Possible to wash all clothes on 'Delicates & Knits'?
Hi there, I am currently living in an apartment, and I'm curious about using the laundry machine, which has four settings: Whites, Colors, Permanant Press, and Delicates and Knits. Till now, I've been only using the Whites and Colors to wash my clothes, but after shrinkage on certain new clothes, I've decided to use Permanent Press and Delicates and Knits instead of Whites and Colors. However, I'm wondering if it would be advisable to do ALL my laundry using only Permanent Press/Delicates and Knits, and if so, which one would you recommend between the two? Thanks! ... Shrinking occurs when clothes are washed in water that is too hot or when you dry them at a heat that is too high. Things like wool should be washed in cold water and layed flat to dry. I wash all "normal clothes" on the whites and colors setting. I just use Gentle for sweaters, things with beads, etc. That way they don't get stretched out and pulverized!!...(Answered by mom-knows-best)

Q.
How can I get rid of mildew from delicates when I can't use bleach or heat?
I have many clothes that say "Wash Cold, Tumble Dry Low (or hang dry), No Bleach". the problem is that without the heat and the chlorine bleach, the clothes eventually mildew. Is there something that I can add to the wash to kill the mildew that won't affect the clothes? Mostly I am having the problem with heavy items like designer jeans and thick cotton golf shirts. The real delicates, such as the rayon and silk tend to dry faster so I don't seem to have a problem with them. I am not allowed to hang clothes ... (Asked by statisticallyCurious)

Clorox 2 has peroxide in it in lieu of chlorine. I believe that will do the trick. FYI: In the future, it is best to get your wash into the dryer as soon as the washer is done. Mildew usually results from the laundry sitting wet to long....(Answered by Papa Smurf)

For most things I put them in delicate/lingerie bags (very open netting bag with a zip) or in a pillowcase in the washing machine and reduce the spin speed. My washing machine specifically has a delicate and a woolen cycle pre-programmed. Or for a couple of really delicate things i my wardrobe I use a little bit of mild detergent Amway SA8 liquid or Gelzyme in a bucket or in the kitchen sink, very gently agitate it, try to get as much water out without ringing then dry it on a wrack outside. If I'm in a hurry, I'll ...(Answered by RaeJay)

Q.
What is a good way to get melted cheese off of a delicate, fancy quilt?
I often use my blankets and such to wipe up massive food spills. The other day I microwaved some cheese, but I heated it up so much that it was more of a liquid than solid. The plate was very hot from being overheated; so, I dropped it when I picked it up, and it spilled. I used my quilt which my mother sewed for me to wipe up this spill. My mother made the quilt for me a few years ago, but I am worried that the cheese stain will not come out so well ... (Asked by aanstalokaniskiodov_nikolai)
