Q.
Is 90 degrees too hot for a dorm room?
I had maintenance come up and fix my dorm ac unit twice and it's still 90 degrees (even at midnight) in spite of my thermostat being set at 60. I'm having trouble sleeping and getting ready to complain to the administration. The secretary made me feel like I am just complaining, that many people don't even have ac. Now I'm just getting angry that I'm paying for a room I can't sleep in. I am from NJ, if that matters. ... (Asked by Dude)

The heat will keep you from sleeping, this will affect your performance in class. You should complain until something is done. You are paying for this room that you can't use as you expected. If you were a renter, you could withhold payment until the problem is fixed, or you could call a repairman and deduct the cost from your rent payment, Don't let the secretary make you feel as if you are in the wrong, you have a right to expect to live in a certain measure of comfort....(Answered by meowqueen1953)

Well ladyugs are a good bug they eat other bugs and they dont bite or sting. My suggestion is so some research on what kind of plant they are attracted to and get that plant then they will be concentrated in one place then you can capture them and put them back outside where they belong. That way they can do what they are supposed to do in helping our environment....(Answered by jhdjkhblpk;mvhyf nbjhghbmnbjgb)

Q.
How much do dorm room beds weigh?
I am moving back into my dorm on Saturday, and I bought bed risers to store stuff under my bed. They say max weight 300lbs, and i was wondering how much my bed weighed, beause me and the bed must weigh at least 300lbs (i'm not overweight). Just wondering if anyone knew. Thanks! ... If it's max weight, then you & the bed would have to weigh under 300 lbs. Which I'm doubting a bed would weigh more then 30 lbs or so. Since you're not overweight, I don't think you'll have to worry about going over the 300lbs limit....(Answered by crazysnicole)

Q.
Is it a good idea to start growing chili pepper plants in dorm room? (has anyone tried?)?
I've been thinking of growing peppers for a bit now. I have seeds, but the problem is that I'm stuck in a dorm room for about a month or so. Would it be a good idea to start growing the plants indoors and then moving them when I move back home? Has anyone tried this? I'm currently in the santa cruz mountains and have a window facing north. ... (Asked by sir_camm)

Q.
How do I avoid getting roaches in my dorm?
I am deathly afraid of roaches and want to make sure I don't get any in my dorm. I keep all my food sealed or in the fridge. However, I do sometimes eat in my room, and I've probably dropped crumbs without realizing. I also need to keep them out of my bathroom. Should I stop eating in my room altogether? What can I do to make sure I don't get roaches? ... (Asked by Mia)

A.
You need to assess whether or not roaches are present in the environment. If roaches are not in your dormitory, then you are NOT going to get roaches regardless of how well or how poorly you keep house. If roaches ARE in your dormitory and you're an average housekeeper, then you MAY get roaches. If roaches ARE in your dormitory and you're a great housekeeper, then your can eliminate or reduce their presence in your room. If roaches ARE in your dormitory and you are a BAD housekeeper, then roaches will take ...(Answered by Stacy J)

For busy people the best plants are cacti. They don't take a lot of care or watering but can add a touch of green to your room. As for the other benefits... having something from nature in a room especially a growing plant can give a sense of calm and well being. Also having one gives you a responsibility outside yourself (yes even a cacti that just needs watering once in a blue moon) to think of....(Answered by songbird092962)

There are two fans going in the room but they don' t seem to help at all. Does anyone have any suggestion to make the room cooler or at least the top bunk? Hey there! I know what you're going through, it wasn't long ago I was in the same situation. You can: 1) Get a small fan that you can clip to your bunk... like these:http://www0.epinions.com/Electric_Fans--reviews--clip_on they are available at bed bath and beyond, target, wal mart and other stores with college departments this season. 2) what I found helps tremendously is to get those box fans that easily sit over a window. It helps pull cool air in at night, so there just won't be warm air circulating. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=95021-48819-FB50A1 they are relatively cheap as well, and you can also find these at a variety of ...(Answered by eMteMind)

What are some ways I can cool my dorm room?
I live in a dorm room that is relatively large, but it is always really hot. I have 2 window fans and two smaller fans, but it is still really hot. Where are you located??? If you are in a relatively dry area (southwest) advise an evaporative system , sometimes called a swamp cooler , and no you don't need a block of ice. Fans do not drop or reduce temp if outside is warmer than inside , they only help evaporate moisture on your skin , perceived temperature. there are also fans which spray a fine mist of water and circulate the cooled /humidified water vapor around.....(Answered by ken G)
