Is 90 degrees too hot for a dorm room?
I had maintenance come up and fix my dorm ac unit twice and it's still 90 degrees (even at midnight) in spite of my thermostat being set at 60. I'm having trouble sleeping and getting ready to complain to the administration. The secretary made me feel like I am just complaining, that many people don't even have ac. Now I'm just getting angry that I'm paying for a room I can't sleep in. I am from NJ, if that matters.

The heat will keep you from sleeping, this will affect your performance in class. You should complain until something is done. You are paying for this room that you can't use as you expected. If you were a renter, you could withhold payment until the problem is fixed, or you could call a repairman and deduct the cost from your rent payment, Don't let the secretary make you feel as if you are in the wrong, you have a right to expect to live in a certain measure of comfort....(Answered by meowqueen1953) |

How do I avoid getting roaches in my dorm?
I am deathly afraid of roaches and want to make sure I don't get any in my dorm. I keep all my food sealed or in the fridge. However, I do sometimes eat in my room, and I've probably dropped crumbs without realizing. I also need to keep them out of my bathroom. Should I stop eating in my room altogether? What can I do to make sure I don't get roaches?

You need to assess whether or not roaches are present in the environment. If roaches are not in your dormitory, then you are NOT going to get roaches regardless of how well or how poorly you keep house. If roaches ARE in your dormitory and you're an average housekeeper, then you MAY get roaches. If roaches ARE in your dormitory and you're a great housekeeper, then your can eliminate or reduce their presence in your room. If roaches ARE in your dormitory and you are a BAD housekeeper, then roaches will take ...(Answered by Stacy J) |

How to cool down dorm room?
I just moved into college and am in an expanded occupancy dorm room. I'm on the top bunk and the heat has been unbearable so far. There are two fans going in the room but they don' t seem to help at all. Does anyone have any suggestion to make the room cooler or at least the top bunk? Keep in mind that we are not allowed to have air conditioners and there really isn't a lot of room for much else. Thanks!!

Hey there!
I know what you're going through, it wasn't long ago I was in the same situation.
You can:
1) Get a small fan that you can clip to your bunk... like these:http://www0.epinions.com/Electric_Fans--reviews--clip_on
they are available at bed bath and beyond, target, wal mart and other stores with college departments this season.
2) what I found helps tremendously is to get those box fans that easily sit over a window. It helps pull cool air in at night, so there just won't be warm air circulating.

they are relatively cheap as well, and you can also find these at a variety of ...(Answered by eMteMind) |

What are some ways I can cool my dorm room?
I live in a dorm room that is relatively large, but it is always really hot. I have 2 window fans and two smaller fans, but it is still really hot. With the window wide open and the door wide open for airflow, it's still bad. Does anyone have any other ideas? Air conditioners are not allowed.

Where are you located??? If you are in a relatively dry area (southwest) advise an evaporative system , sometimes called a swamp cooler , and no you don't need a block of ice. Fans do not drop or reduce temp if outside is warmer than inside , they only help evaporate moisture on your skin , perceived temperature. there are also fans which spray a fine mist of water and circulate the cooled /humidified water vapor around.....(Answered by ken G) |
