Q.
Electric fireplace?
We bought a beautiful house that is perfect in every way, except for a very ugly fake fireplace. My house is traditional, but the mantel is light oak. Well, actually, it is just about perfect after I have spent 4 years and a lot of money. My last project is the fireplace, and my budget can't take a custom-made job. We are total electric so I don't have the choice of using gas. The electric fireplace w/mantel that I found at Lowe's is made of fake, cheap looking material. If I ... Q.
Gas vs electric cooktop?
I am remodeling a kitchen and am struggling with the decision of gas versus electric cooktop. I like to cook but as a busy mom, I don't whip up too many gourmet meals. I know that electric smoothtops are easier to clean whereas gas has better heat control. Does anyone have any insight that might help me make my decision? ... (Asked by steph759)

Here is the answer...if you are looking for ease of cleaning and speed, the electric is your choice. It will heat your pots and pans faster than a gas range. On the other hand, I am a die hard gas range fan. You have the control of the temperature and clean up isn't very difficult. Go gas...in 15 years when the kids are gone and you want to cook more gourmet, you will be happy with your decision...(Answered by Old Mad One)

Most modern electric blankets can be used all night on the low setting. They are quite safe to be used in this manner. All you do is use the higher settings to heat the bed up and then turn it down to the low setting for overnight use. I got mine a couple of years ago for £14.99 in my local electrical shop, but most good stores will sell them....(Answered by neonbabe)

The realistic looking electric fireplaces have only been out for about five years. I purchased one five years ago and it looks and works exactly the way it did back then. I have been so thrilled with my electric fireplace, that now I have one in my kitchen, in the master bedroom and in the teen girls room, as well as having a wood fireplace in the living room. I bought dimplex. You wont be disappointed with the electric fireplace, and if you change your mind later, you can always move it to another room....(Answered by Kateh)

Yes, I have one in my own home, and every year people complement me on how well I decorate it. But, my house is over 100 years old, and we have a chimney that leads to a small hole in the wall in the basement, where they would feed coal into it to keep the house warm. So, with the fake fireplace, and the chimney on the roof, they might not allways match up. They do surprisingly enough heat the house very well, and in the chicago winters we always have toasty toes. They don't raise the bill anymore then ...(Answered by kaitenight)

Do yourself a favour, go for a power shower, much more powerful and cheaper. With an electric shower the electrician has to run heavy cable from the bathroom ceiling to the meter box in a continuous run in what is known as a dedicated circuit. If someone were to fill a kettle while someone was in the shower, the shower shuts off.. A power shower doesn't suffer this problem if fitted correctly (In a dedicated circuit to each tank) NO electrician to pay and superior performance....(Answered by xenon)
