When do the fall leaves change color in Madison, WI?
I'm wondering when the fall leaves are at their best in Madison WI. Does anyone have an idea of when they're at their peak, but have not fallen off the trees yet? I'm looking for the classic bright red, orange and yellow fall colors.
Thank you!

It depends on how early in the year it starts to get chilly. Trees start to go dormant when there are more chilly days than warm days. That's when the leaves start to change. Try keeping track of the fall foliage on sites like this one to plan your trip: http://www.travelwisconsin.com/search/FallColorReport.html
Oh, this site hasn't started reporting for this year yet, it's too early. The information is 2005 information.
Here is another fall foliage site with information for across the country: http://www.foliagenetwork.com/default.php...(Answered by Gwen) |

Beware of falling avocado tree's branches?
Recently our 3-stories tall avocado tree with tons of heavy, unripe fruits (green, smooth glossy skin) has been falling immature avocados. And within the past week, two arm size branches has fallen down, hit the root and bended the gutter a bit.
As I was cleaning the up the mess, I noticed the wood are extremely easy to break without any tools.
So my concern is...
1) Shall I have it professional pruned ASAP because I am afraid that someone might get hurt from it?
2) I have at least 10 lbs of unripe avocados "harvest" from ... (Asked by IDalingI) |

Are you sure they won't ripen? They may take several days or even a couple weeks. Mine never fall ripe.
I would consult a tree arborist. You can find tree trimmers anywhere but you won't know for sure if they know what is best for the tree. You don't want to prune more than 1/3rd of the growth at one time.
And try to at least donate the avocados. Local food bank. It's not as if there is a shortage of homeless in L.A. Or sell them to the mexican restaurants - or exchange for ...(Answered by Dirtt) |

Tomato seedlings falling over/wilting?
I had some tomato seedlings that were doing really well, about 4-5 inches high and 3-4 sets of leaves. Tonight they have fallen over. Am I giving them too much water or not enough? They are in 4" peat pots and feel dry when I stick my finger in it, but I'm not sure if there is some moisture down further. I'm in Utah so the air is dry here and they were in a south facing basement window, so not too much direct sunlight, but some. Help?

You can tell easily whether they need watering or not.
Submerge the pots in a bucket of water until they stop bubbling. This will have completely soaked up enough water for them to get back on their feet.
Wait a few days for them to pick up and the moisture level to get back to normal and then commence watering on a daily basis.
Tomatoes love water and need it both for foliage and fruit growth....(Answered by Stuart Robinson) |
