Can you install granite tile over existing plastic laminate tops?
I need to know if you can install granite tile over the top of plastic laminate counter tops, or if you have to pull the p-lam off first. What would be the easiest way to install granite tile on countetops that already have plastic laminate? Quality-wise it's better to pull the laminate. The granite may not sit flat or line up right. Laying over is usually the type of work they do on shows where they redo a room in a day or with flippers who want to do the least work for the most potential profit. If it's something you're doing for yourself, take the time and do it right. No question that it's easier, though....(Answered by Adam S)

I have bought a large property in Brittany which needs renovation. I would like to use Local "Rose Granite" but cannot find a supplier. Granite is too dense to let mold get a toe hold. Marble might be the kind of stone you are thinking of. Our granite is so highly polished it is clear there are no pores for the mold. Our granite is 10 years old, never been sealed and we have never had a problem with mold....(Answered by oil field trash)

Check to see where the seams are, if any. Also if you want take a small torpedo level with you to see how well of a job they did installing it level. Any place where there were cuts, check to see that the granite did not splinter or chip at all. You may also want to look at the finish edge to make sure that the bull nose finish or whichever finish is there is consistent throughout the kitchen....(Answered by wills)

A.
For the most part, granite is older. Marble is metamorphic stone that was once limestone. There are certainly deposits of marble that are older than some deposits of granite, but limestone is mostly calcium carbonate and requires skeletal remains (coral, plankton, shells, bones, etc) to form. Granite is crystallized magma.. feldspar, quartz... silica, basically. That's some of the molten stuff at the center of the earth.. Granite forms as liquid rock solidifies under pressure. Marble forms by absorption of other minerals into limestone while under heat and pressure....(Answered by Julie)
