Stone wall of cottage crumbling?
My cottage date sback to c1650, the walls are made of 18" thick stone. Some of the stones (both original and 25 yrs old) have started to crumble away, more so with the heavy rain hitting them. They are Yorkshire Stone which know is soft, but what quick fix is there available on the market to harden off and stabilise the remaining stone. It's been raining stair-rods and more damage will occur. Also the oak lintel above the window is rotten due to water penetration, any help with hardening that also.

Something amiss here. Cottage built in c.1650, and stone work has just now began to visibly wear away. If it has stood for over 350years, I would have thought it extremely unlikely that erosion would take place so suddenly and at such a rapid pace that you describe regardless of how severe the weather has been.
However! -------------- If you are so worried about it, there are products available to halt the stone work wear in the 'RONSEAL' range.
As for the oak lintel, you didn't say how big it was, but I have no doubt that in a ...(Answered by mal g) |

without more info i can tell you there is a product called belzona that is good for a lot of applications, but i am not sure about the heat range, it is also hard to remove
if you are looking for a gasket, you can use the type like they sell for woodburning stoves or there is a gasket material we use in high heat applications in powerhouses, but I don't know how you could obtain it or what it would be marketed under
there is also firepoof caulking material that can be used, but it does have a little bit of ...(Answered by chiselhead) |

Masterbuilt hardening freezer?
I have a two-door stand alone hardening freezer by Master Built. It is a year and a half old and recently has began running very loud. Its still maintains its temperature very well but is just noisy. I had a service tech out and he says the compressor is "shot".
1. Is it typical for a compressor to be “shot” in a year and a half?
2. Can the compressor be rebuilt/repaired instead of replaced?

It is rare that a compressor goes out that fast, but I have seen it happen... And yes it can be replaced if necessary... The question I have is that where the noise is really coming from? Sounds to me like you may have a bad evaporator or condenser fan motor that may just be rattling, or hitting on something... The reason I say this is that if the compressor was shot, it wouldn't cool as good as it does... Try to pinpoint the location of the noise yourself, and see if it's actually the compressor that is bad... Most ...(Answered by Kirk D) |
