which is the best water softener or whole home water filteration system?
Water hardness at the new house is over 10 grains per gallon and definely need something to make the water soft. I would prefer to use something that doesn't use salt for backwashing and such (heard it's not good for the environment as it gets dumped into the lakes n such)
Any suggestions to particular compaines or products? and how much it might cost?

Do I need to use a water softener?
The total hardness of the water from our well is 22ppm ( = 22 mg/L or 1.3 gpg) with no detectable iron. I understand why water sometimes needs to be softened but in particular was wondering if anyone else has heard of certain levels at which water should or shouldn't need to be softenned.
We will be using bottled water for drinking. Mostly concerned about the level of hardness and its effect on appliances.

The precise mixture of minerals dissolved in the water, together with the water's acidity or alkalinity (pH) and temperature will determine the behaviour of the hardness, so single number on a scale does not give a full description. Descriptions of hardness correspond roughly with ranges of mineral concentrations:
Soft: 0 - 20 mg/L as calcium
Moderately soft: 20 - 40 mg/L as calcium
Slightly hard: 40 - 60 mg/L as calcium
Moderately hard: 60 - 80 mg/L as calcium
Hard: 80 - 120 mg/L as calcium
Very Hard >120 mg/L as calcium...(Answered by breezyburgee) |
