HEPA Air Cleaner and Vacuum?
What are the best reasonably priced HEPA air filters out there? Is it best to get one that attached to a furnace (but then its only running when the heat or AC is on) or a few smaller ones and move them room to room?
Also, I understand that it is imprtant to try and vacuum with a HEPA vacuum. Any advice on something out there that is reasonably priced (and reasonably priced filters).
For both, I want to get something that is not too cheap (ie something that actually works) but not top of the line (I am not running a ... (Asked by jinkies!) |

Hello,
I wrote an article about this on my site. I'll give you a quick rundown. I can't offer you Air Filter advice but vacuums are right up my alley!
Okay, you're going to want to check out any Dyson, they have excellent HEPA filtration, the Oreck XL Celoc Vacuum, and any MIELE Canister vacuum. (My personal favorite is the Miele Galaxy)
Those are the BEST high end HEPA filtered vacuum cleaners. If you want something a little less expensive you should check out the Bissell Healthy Home line. They have excellent HEPA filtered vacuum cleaners at much cheaper rates the ...(Answered by Vacuum Sensei) |

Should I turn the "ionizer" feature on, in my HEPA air purifier?
I have a HEPA air filter. It has a button on it, which turns on the optional "ionizer" feature. The system is made by Honeywell (actually a company called Kaz, which sells it under the Honeywell name.)
Any information on the helpful effects of having "negative ions" in the air?

Ionize means to send harmless low electrical emissions into the atmosphere. Lightning is mother natures ionizer.
Its a negative electrical charge that causes inert particles to bond. For example, lightning causes water droplets to bond to dust particles in the atmosphere as well as other water droplets so that it gets heavy enough for rain fall.
That's why lightning always precedes a heavy rain fall.
Same thing with your HEPA filter. The ionizer makes dust particles bond, get heavy and fall to the ground or gather in your filter more efficiently.
Some people sell professional ionizers for indoor atriums, because of ...(Answered by Laura J) |

Whatever you do don't buy those worthless Ionic breeze machines that only work in one room. Use somthing that will take care of the whole house. The Trane CleanEffects is the best thing on the market today. It is used with your central air system. If you don't want to cool or heat your house you can still use it by turning just the fan/blower on. Also consider a UV light. It goes right into your duct system and kills mold, and bacteria, kills stuff even like the strep throught virus! Hope this helps....(Answered by erick_curtis) |

Do HEPA air purifiers get rid of smells?
I live in an apartment here and I am getting sick of all this crap from other people's cooking. It's an older building and they won't look into it.
I read HEPA is a better purifier but I don't know if it would stop smells from coming in my front door... it is shut so don't give me stupid stuff about shut your door, just too old of a building (renovation they are doing doesn't help).
Smells only hit me in the living room/dining room... about 350 sq ft I need to protect from smells.
Will a HEPA do this?

Both of these previous answers are simply untrue!
For the ultimate in air filtration, a true HEPA filter (one that passes all of the air in the house through it by installing inline to your HVAC system) is the best choice. It uses the type of filtration technology required in hospitals and operating rooms. HEPA filters are the most efficient mechanical filters for removing small particles which can be breathed deep into the lungs. HEPA filters have a 99.97% efficiency for particle sizes all the way down to 0.30 microns.
The vast majority of the odor and unhealthy particles in the ...(Answered by Tim) |
