A.
Not all same hp pumps pump the same amount of water (gpm). A Hayward, for example, would be sufficient at a 1 HP rating. The pump end design (not just the motor HP) determines the pump's flow rate as well. I have a Hayward 1HP Matrix Pump on a 21' round, and it's all the power anyone would need. (Some other brands are just as good... do you know who made the old one?) Also, the size of your filter will limit the size pump you can use. If the filter and pump were ...(Answered by jmeechum)

I just bought a new garage door opener and i cant get it to take my door all the way down and all the way up.?
I have read the instructions and i can get it to open either all the way up or all the way down, not both. I have tried everything I can think to try including moving the adjustment of the chain. By the way, I have a 3/4 horsepower Craftsman Chain drive unit. ... (Asked by Jeremy S)

Measure the height of you garage door. The "standard" size door is 7 feet high. Out of the box, Craftsman openers can raise a door 7 to 7 1/2 feet. If you have an 8 foot or taller door, you will need the appropriate extension kit for your opener - listed near the end of the manual on the "accessories" page. Using the kit would require you to move the motor unit further back in to the garage, so if you can live with the door not quite opening all the way, you'll save yourself ...(Answered by Opener Guy)

Q.
Furnace Motor on Generator, Reduced Voltage?
I am currently running my furnace on a generator because of what is expected to be a PROLONGED power outage here in the Howling Godless Wilderness of Illinois. My generator is 1500W Run 1850W Surge, so I am cycling the furnace manually so that it is the only load on the generator when running. The Voltage at the Motor is 99 Volts, and the motor starts rather slowly and is running a BIT slower than off the mains, So, IS IT DAMAGING TO RUN a 1/3 Horsepower Split Phase Motor designed for 115V on 99V ?? I hava a NATURAL GAS ... (Asked by None G)

It's unfortunate you couldn't have known about the problem before the power outage. Have you operated the furnace from generator before this outage? What is the output voltage of the generator under no load? This would help determine if the generator may have a fault from the start. I would be reluctant to operate the furnace under the conditions you describe. Under low voltage and low speed the motor may require higher than normal current and may overheat. Read through my generator page for other generator operating and safety concerns. http://members.rennlist.org/warren/generator.html...(Answered by warren914)

do i mix oil with the gas to run my lawn mower? it's a murray 3.5 horsepower 21", model 21661E ??
just moved into a home, the old owners left the mower and i can't find the manual online - just needing to know if it needs a gas/oil mix or if it's just straight gasoline? it's a 3.5 horsepower B&S classic engine, 21" R/B pushmower made by Murray . . thanks!! ... (Asked by _)

A.
the 3.5b&s is a four stroke, therefore straight gasoline. to reasssur yourself look on the rear right hand side of the engine where it mounts to the deck and you will see the oil filler spout. while you are there check the oil, it may need topped up. 2 cycle b&s are few and far between, and the classic 3.5 is definately a 4 stroke. i guarentee that!...(Answered by no2censors)

Q.
How does torque relate to horsepower in lawnmower engines?
We want to buy a gas push lawnmower with at least 3 horsepower, but everything seems to be in torque now. So how do I know what the horsepower is? ... (Asked by lulu)
View Entire Question | Report Abuse | Similar Questions | See it in Y!
A.
They are somewhat related. They are both units of power. Torque is rated at defined RPMs while HP is not. The reason torque is a better measurement for small engines is because while an engine might be rated for a high HP if it does not have low end torque (at low RPM) the HP at the high end does little good. All of that being said you need to know RPM to convert torque to HP. If you do know the RPM the conversion is HP=torque(in pound inches)*RPM/63025 or HP=torque(in pound feet)*RPM/5252...(Answered by Controlfreak38)
