Our water is not hot enough for more than one shower and want to increase the temperature.
Sorry, by my question i meant what was recommended for the people using the shower...i didn't mean what was safe for the actual hot water heater ^_^;; hehe

Most heaters are designed with a temperature shut-off valve that shuts the heater down if the temp exceeds 190 degrees. Otherwise, size of the household, and hot water requirements will determine where you set the thermostat. If it's set too low, you'll likely run out too quickly. If it's too hot, it will scald somebody. But I set mine at 110 degrees. I can add the cold water mixture to ensure the water isn't too hot while not worrying about using pure hot, in which case, it will deplete faster. Also, you don't want to ...(Answered by stretch) |

Boiling hot water last night... Ice cold water today. Whats going on?
So, before I get started, I think it's worth mentioning that I live in a dorm. That being said... Last night, steaming hot water was coming out of our (hot) water faucets and the shower, and even the water in the toilet was warm/hot. It's not like you'd turn it on and it gradually got super steaming hot... Within a second of turning it on, there was steam. The plumber was called and now the faucet water is back to normal (still a little hot, but not melt-your-skin-off hot), but now the shower water is ice cold (even after running ... First, there was probably a deficiency with the water heater and it probably got steaming hot all of the sudden becasue the valve broke of the cold water so steam came out, becasue in dorm rooms theyre controled in different places and cant have then checked out so often, so sometimes little things break or minor things happen, so it gets either too cold or too hot. And second, it's probably where the water heater is located in the dorm building, and depending on that, there can be some cool air penetrating from the outside and making your water very ...(Answered by Draco Lover) |

Hot water not being consistent?
I have a natural gas water heater. If we use hot water through the day, we have no problems. But if we do not use any hot water during the day, we can start the bath and the water will not be as hot or stay hot longer than it would if we had been using hot water during the day. It is not always consistant, but it does happen fairly often during the week since we are not home during the day. The tank is about 2 years old.
I appreciate the responses..but the issue is ... (Asked by johnkylex) |

I am guessing that the bath is quite a distance from the water heater. The water laying in the lines all day is cooler than the hot water flow when you initially turn it on. This "tempers" the water until all the cooler water is flushed out of the pipes. There may also be a problem with the thermostat not kicking on the burner when water is not being used all day. This would allow the water in the tank to go below the temperature you have the tank set at. If this is the problem, you should also have ...(Answered by sensible_man) |

Hot water heater?
I have very hot water in my kitchen.
I have a separate tub, and shower in the master bath. The water temperature constantly changes (hotter, colder, hotter, colder)while you are in the shower. In the bathtub, the water starts out hot, and gets colder. If you turn off the tap in the tub, wait 5 minutes and turn it back on the water is very hot again, but only for a few minutes. I can no longer get enough hot water at a time to fill the bath. The bath is an oversized jacuzzi tub.
Because this doesn't happen in ... (Asked by DME B) |

How old of a water heater is it? On the inlet side (where the cold, unheated water comes in) there is usually a tube that takes the cold water to the bottom of the heater and prevents the water from entering the heater and immediately leaving it before it can heat up. On some older water heaters, this tube was made of a plastic that didn't stand up to the constant heat very well and would deteriorate after a few years. It's not that costly to replace if you are a DIY.

Help : Shower does not get hot?!?
Okay, I have a pretty serious problem and my girlfriend threatened to leave me if I do not fix it. :-) j/k
Anyways, I have a Kohler shower. I have one dial that controls water flow(pressure) and another dial that controls water temp. The link to what I have behind the walls is http://www.us.kohler.com/onlinecatalog/detail.jsp?item=274302
When I turn the temp up to it's hottest temp, the water only gets warm at best. I can tolerate it but it is not ideal. I have checked the hot water heater and it is fine. I have checked ... (Asked by Poker_dude) |

Take the mixer valve apart replace the inner parts. To replace the whole valve would mean tearing the wall apart. You may even be able to buy a kit. See your Home depot or Lowe's guy for
help. (Or go to a specialty plumbing store. One that sells plumbing stuff only. Prices are higher, but help is more specific.)...(Answered by It All Matters.~☺♥) |

Should you use 40 gallons of hot water in 5 minutes?
I rent and the land lord was over trying to fix the hot water tank he said it only takes 5 minutes to empty the hot water tank. He said I should put on a water saver and that would cure the problem. The tank is on the hottest setting. Any ideas if the tank might be bad? He emptied it several times and refilled it. Ive lived here a year and never had a problem before.
I run out of hot water in the middle of a shower a trust me I dont stay in long.

First there is no need for the tank to be on the hottest setting. And putting it on a water saver could help but turning down the setting would help too. At that setting its too easy someone could get burnt. Your local water company can tell you what is a good setting. Or even your local hardware store...(Answered by mommyblues78) |
