Check out the link below for what an insert adapter looks like. If you get one 1 1/4 x male thread adapter and one 1 1/2 x male thread adapter, then you can get an 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 bell reducer and screw each of the adapter in the reducer then use stainless steel clamps to hook your hoses to.

Ok to cut 4 inch hole in rim/header joist for plumbing?
I need to add a 3 inch line for a bathroom addition. The only way I can get it to attach to the main at a higher point, is to cut a hole into the rim/header joist. Is that OK? I have been told never to cut into floor joists, so I am a little nervous.
Thanks in advance,

You can double (or triple) up the joist and drill your hole. As long as the cut or drill hole is towards the top of the joist, and it's sufficiently reinforced, you should have no problems. But, if in doubt, call your inspector and ask what is code.
The rim-joist? As long as you're sure what it is, you can cut into it without any worry.
The rim-joist is the 2x box framing that the full joists butt into. The rim-joist usually rests on the sill plate, which in turn, rests on the footing....(Answered by BearDown) |

I have .25 inch grout lines that are cracking. how do i fix it?.?
I installed ceramic tile with .25 inch grout lines. I used unsanded grout, and have now learned I should have used sanded grout, due to this the grout is cracking. Can I repair the grout and if so how? Can I just add more grout, and if so do I use the same stuff or use sanded? Or do I have to remove the grout and redo it?

If you use more grout, it too will crack. You need to rake out the joints and re-grout using 'wide-joint' (sanded) grout. You can buy a special tool called a 'grout-rake', from most hardware stores and tile specialists, quite cheaply.
After re-grouting i might be an idea to use a grout sealer to prevent stains penetrating (it also helps stop discoloration)....(Answered by paul266172) |

Where do I buy 1.5 inch fine thread tub drain cover?
I have an old cast iron tub with a rusted tub drain stopper. I tried to change it but all the standard stores carry 1.5 inch or 13/8 inch coarse thread stoppers. I was also able to find a 1 3/8 inch fine thread stopper. Does anyone know where I can get a 1.5 inch fine thread stopper around Chicago or anywhere online?

Home Depot, Lowe's, even Wal*Mart has everything now! If you want more specialty, as it seems, you may want to stop by your local hardware store. They seem to stock specialty items, but, however, the big home improvement chains stock that stuff now too. Lowe's is good at special ordering stuff that they don't carry....(Answered by JackieC) |

measure The thickness of the drywall (probably half of an inch thick) you can find scraps of Sheetrock at most building sites if not some lowes centers sell small pieces of Sheetrock for repairs. when you have a piece of Sheetrock that is the same size of the hole. (it is usually easier to cut the hole square then cut a piece to match)
you will need drywall mud or plaster of paris (plaster of paris dries quickly) cut a small piece of wood that will fit into the hole but overlap on each side. screw this to the drywall ...(Answered by lostin_dark) |
