what are some basic inexpensive ways to make my home more beautiful?
Hi, I am a terrible decorator. I have some nice paintings, but other than the paintings and my furniture I don't have a flare for making my space more pretty. I am in an apartment, so I can't paint the walls. My walls are cream and my carpet beige. I have a black couch and tan-colored marble topped kitchenette. So its very basic. My paintings are kind of Victorian. Does anyone have any basic inexpensive ideas how to keep my home more beautiful? By the way, I don't want any plants or flowers, because of allergies and I think they ... (Asked by wcarolinew) |

Black sofa? ... Contempory meets Victorian.
Print black and white photos from your computer ... you could even find some Victorian photos to convert into black and white. The internet is a wonderful source of artwork. Mount pictures in black frames and arrange over your sofa.
Arrange frames over the sofa but do not line everything up. Scatter frames within a defined space ... such as the length of your sofa.
Go to the dollar store for you frames ... paint them black if necessary.
I have done this to my studio and it looks stunning.....

If you are selling,
1.Patch & Paint-nueteral colors
2. Steam clean carpet
3. Water your lawn- a lush green lawn always adds curb apeal
4. Add flowers to your landscaping, color looks nice
5. Get rid of lawn junk-car parts, trash, ect.
6. Trim and tend trees and bushes
Appraisers generally just look at the size of your home, the size of your property and the value of the property surrounding yours. If a appraiser comes into your house, it is usually to make sure that you have all that you claim to have, number of bedrooms, baths, ect.

What's the scent that some very inexpensive household items have?
It's a strong chemical odor that's similar to mothballs, but isn't quite the same. How does one get rid of it safely? I've noticed it on some things from 99-cent stores and other bargain stores. I recently bought a leather chair (not THAT inexpensive) with the odor & would like to get rid of the smell without throwing the chair out.
Serious suggestions only, please. If you don't have any idea what I mean or don't have a solution, just move on to the next question, okay?
Thanks.

Most likely it is the cheap plastic or it might be the packing material they use when they ship it.
I think you just have to unwrap them and let them air out outside (in the shade, the sun will likely damage such cheap plastic). If you can, you might rinse them off. I don't think you want to use any cleaning solution on them, certainly nothing harsher than a mild dish soap.
I rarely buy from such stores, you get what you pay for....(Answered by Wundt) |
