Q.
How do you fight mice without cats?
We have a terrible problem with mice in our home and we don't know what to do. They mice have grown smart and know how to avoid fly paper when we set it out. However, we hesitate to use rat poison for the same reason that we can't get a cat: We have three dogs, a large Rottweiler and two mixed Daschunds. We're afraid they may stumble upon the rat poison and inadvertently ingest it themselves. But also, we know that they will not take kindly to having to share residence with a cat. It also doesn't help that we live ... (Asked by peppercorn)

Q.
Are poisonous houseplants dangerous to health?
Certain houseplants are known to be poisonous. Are they poisonous only if ingested or touched? or are they deadly even just having them around? I am hoping to add some houseplants to my home to help improve air quality, but since some varieties are known to be poisonous, i am wondering if I should avoid these altogether or if the danger is only by ingestion, and not by possible airbourn secretion of toxins. ... People come into contact with a hazardous substance by one or a combination of three ways. Three routes of exposure are breathing [inhalation], eating or drinking [ingestion], or contact with the skin [dermal contact]. Other than those I suppose you might be put in danger by a plant by high decibel shrieks, stangulation by rapid vine growth or carniverous attack, neither of which seems plausible. So since you ruled ou ingestion and dermal contact the only thing left is by inhalation. Bracken ferns put out spores that in high concentration could be toxic to certain people or animals. ...(Answered by Jim B)

How can I get rid of the fertilizer neighbors put on my yard? I don't want my chickens to eat it or dogs on it
How can I get rid of the fertilizer neighbors put on my yard? I don't want my chickens to eat it or dogs on it... My neighbor thought they were being helpful by fertilizing our back yard when they did theirs. I have 12 baby chicks I was planning to put back there, but I don't want them to eat the little greenish-yellow balls of chemicals. One of my dogs has new puppies as well and I don't want her on the grass and then going right to her puppies. Is there a way to get rid of it or neutralize ... (Asked by James and Ashley)

I don't know, but I wouldn't put the animals out there until its gone. I would be really mad at my neighbors if they did that! Could you vacuum it up with a shop vac? Then water it really really well to get it off the surface. We don't use any chemicals, but I would imagine if you just walk the dog it will be okay, but she shouldn't roll in it before nursing the pups. Just keep her on a leash. The chicks, I think it would be very harmful to them. I would ask the neighbors ...(Answered by 2 Happily Married Americans)

sticky traps don't work for rats they carry them off and you'll find them later stuck on walls floors but no rat. i put dcon down and i continue to do it till i notice there wasn't any missing from the box anymore. its about 4 days i believe before they finally eat enough, don't get discourage hang in there and keep the dcon filled . but if you have animals or children make sure they cant reach or get into. anti freeze does work but highly toxic also. so i would just hang in there stick with dcon ...(Answered by mala)
