How to remove clay and iron stains from brick walls, windows and grill doors?
Hi! I was wondering if anyone knows any trick in removing clay and iron stains from light coloured brick walls and from windows and grill doors. I have badly "iron stained" walls and fence (colourbond) and "impossible to remove clay" on my windows and pavers and on my black grill doors. All this was due to my bore water initially and now it's driving me insane with my house being the only one in the area with such stains!
Would truly appreciate any advice that ppl may have. Thanks!

OHHHHHHHHH ! Don't you dare use muriatic acid on light colour bricks and grill doors !!!
It will acid-burn your bricks and make them a pukey yellow-greeny-yellow with a brand new kind of stain, "vanadium stain", and the rust stain will remain just the same. Muriatic acid will etch the glass, and it will definitely react with the metal on the grill doors severely corode the surface and disintegrate the metal turning it into a form of some kind of "salt". Brick manufacturers specifically advise AGAINST using muriatic acid, especially for light colour bricks, but ...(Answered by brickstone) |

I have 3 cast iron skillets - one of which is a little bit rusted. How can I restore/care for them? One was my grandmother's, one my mother's and the other came from an estate sale.

Seasoning
When you season cast iron, you are embedding grease in to the pores of the cookware. Without proper seasoning, cast iron will rust after coming in contact with water. To season your cookware, first warm your pot or skillet, then rub a thin layer of shortening (or corn oil as some cooks suggest) all over the the surface of the pan, inside and out. Lay the pan upside down inside a 350 degree oven. Most cookware manufacturers suggest heating the pan for one hour, while some cooks suggest up to 4-5 hours for just the right amount of seasoning. The ...(Answered by Yah00_goddess) |

What's the best way to deal with well water with high iron content?
I currently have a Culligan Iron Cleer unit, and it has been effective in removing iron, but also is very noisy and becomes clogged with the 'mud' that comes out of our well.
Any experiences that anyone can share with different models of iron filter would be appreciated. Especially if you have >5ppm of iron in your well water.

Ok I have had this problem and it could be 1 of 2 things. 1 you foot valve could need replacing, and 2 your water level sounds like it is getting dangerously low because you should not have any mud content if both 1& 2 are fine. If you well is less than 200 ft. your water level could be low. and when we have alot I mean alot of rain my water is alittle muddy for a few days but clears up. Check on your foot valve 1st. And if you live in an area that has been ...(Answered by bakerchristiandayschool) |
