Limestone? Wow are they that bad. Limestone sounds pretty. I would use a primer and possibly a concrete paint if you want it to last a long time or if it gets damp. You probably won't need primer with concrete paint, read the label and consider the cost of doing primer and a good kitchen bath paint which holds up really well under damp conditions and covers well as well as levels itself out. Good luck....(Answered by MISS-MARY)

Is limestone a good insulated builing material for a home?

Stone, brick, earth have a very low R value- less than 1R per inch.( clay/earth/cob/adobe is only 1/4 R per inch) ..so if you want the stone wall' look ' on the inside you will have to insulate the outside and cover that with more stone, or something else. no getting around it, or pay high energy bills in winter....(Answered by Dirtcheapbuilder)

Q.
I have a poweder room that is 1/2 round... what wall treatment?
The exterior of the house looks like a chateau with round tourets and cream stone + limestone. The inside is transitional. I found two options... one is 2x4 stone tiles that look like rough stones which will give a "fun castle" feel. The other is a more contemporary wallcovering called bedazzled that can be seen at mayaromanoff.com. The sink is an alabaster bowl made of pearl tiles that will have an iron stand made for it. Thank you all! My interior designor just quit on me to work with a company :( ... (Asked by marco p)

What do you think of a LIMESTONE or MARBLE address sign? (Number is etched on the surface of the marble)?

A.
My issue with the etching is that there is no color difference between the inside and the outside of the stone. Hence, there is little to no contrast, and guests will struggle to read the address. One solution is to paint the engraved portion with a light or metallic paint. Oh, and don't forget to use a classic font when engraving the stone....(Answered by IMHOTEP)

has anyone experienced problems with limestone wall & floor tiling in bathrooms? is it a good option.?
We are concerned because we hear that stone looks good when first installed, but stains badly so within a year or two it looks bad Even when sealed. Also when sealed, it goes much darker. The stone is limestone. Has anyone experience good or bad. We considered porcelain, but this does not give the right look, and on the floor is very slippery. Advice from all the experienced people please! Thank you very much ... (Asked by dick d)

A.
Limestone can not be cleaned with the average tile cleaners that are used in most shower areas. It must be cleaned with a product that is made specifically for limestone. If a different product is used on the limestone it will ruin the tile. Cleaning must be kept up well or it will be harder to clean. It mus also never be sprayed with bleach or bleach type products....(Answered by bethany g)

Limestone Flooring Tile Questions?
I have some limestone tile manufactured in Mexico. It's neat looking stuff but seems very porous. I haven't installed it yet. A.
If it is porous, I'd advise you to have your flooring installer "seal" the stone by doing one of two things...either fill the holes (pits) in the stone with grout (cheapest and easiest) or fill the pits with Akemi (best looking). Akemi is basically a material made of silicone and finely ground stone and shell particles that is used to fill pitted areas in porous stones like limestone and travertine. If you go the grout route, be sure you match the color of the grout to one of the lighter portions of the stone so it doesn't look ...(Answered by Jennifer G)
