Q.
How can a non-profit camp make their dormitory cement floors look decent?
The cement floors have been painted many times, but the paint just flakes off making it look worse than before. The floors are dirty from years of camp use and are often damp from leaking roofs and poor construction. The floors are hard to get at because of the bunk beds which cannot be moved. It's a long building with many rooms so the task seems overwhelming. The camp is suffering because no one wants to have their kids stay in such an ugly looking dorm. The camp also has very little money, but does ... (Asked by KatieMat)

1st rule is that any paint applied is no better than the coat it is applied too. You have to get the old paint up. Then you need to check for moisture problems. A leaking roof will not cause the trouble you have. Swimming pools have water and the paint sticks. Go to a paint supply house and they have a moisture vapor kit you place on the floor and cover. Moisture that works its way through the slab will show on this kit. Most DIY slabs don't have moisture/vapor barriars (black plastic sheets) layed prior to pouring. If ...(Answered by Crawfish)

What will FEMA look for in my basement for flood damage?
My basement was recently damage due to flooding from a big storm in Ohio. We aren't covered by insurance, it was seepage damage. FEMA is coming out tomorrow. We have paneling on part of the wall so we are turning some of it around to show the mold and crud back there. Any ideas for what else they will look for or how we can show maximum damage? ... Finished basement or not ? Water seeps everywhere, whatever depth the water was at is damaged. Concrete floors will absorb like a sponge and need time to dry, drywall (wallboard) will expand were wet, wood will stain, carpet can be cleaned and treated but the under-pad should be replaced etc... You may not be able to see all of what is damaged until all is dry, allow some time before determining all of your loss. Install some fans and dehumidifier to help with drying process. Then treat for mildew. Allow a good 10 days of drying before you inspect whats ...(Answered by parky)

you want to make sure you take into count the following: length, width and thickness, surface finish e.g. cleft, honed or polished, edges e.g. quarry cut, fine hand cut or machine cut thickness i.e. natural split thickness or calibrated thickness. ( I personally would select fine hand cut) I think you have made a good choice right off just by selecting granite instead of prefabricated materials. Granite is excellent in regards to wear and tear, stains and so much more. You are going to love the look and feel. Make sure you select a look that is natural and ...(Answered by Pan)

Look for water damage, flush all the toilets to make sure they work without backups, check the windows to make sure they are in good shape if not new, check the crawl space to make sure there is no standing water, if the walls in the home have cracks up them, that can be a sign of a bad foundation. The best thing to do, is have an inspector come in before you go to closing. Other than that.. I look for something that I wont outgrow, with a rapidly growing family. Second.. schools are very important.. and taxes for ...(Answered by Serious Mandy)

They are 2 different wood grains. The best you can do is get some Oak stain. (When they say Oak stain - that means oak colored stain.) The word colored is dropped. I would use the oil based(solvent) stain which is semi-transparent which you apply on with a brush, wait a minute and wipe off. The stain that remains is the color. You may want to make it darker, which means putting on the stain again, waiting and rubbing off. Rubbing off, hides the brush marks. Use a cotton ...(Answered by the Figurer)

I have asked this question twice without getting a good answer so far-I am considering buying a spa/hot tub. I do not want to spend too much money to buy one. Okay, here we go. Go to a spa dealer or manufacturer and ask to sit in an EMPTY tub. One size does NOT fit all. If you are 5 ft. 6 you need a different tub than if you are 6 ft. 5. Try a number of them until you find one that feels right. You will be more buoyant when it's full of water, but you don't want to have to hold on to keep from floating away. Next, discuss with the dealer exactly which parts you want massaged most. Upper back, lower back, neck, shoulders, calves, feet, ...(Answered by windancerhil)
