Snow is melting and uncovered a hole in the top of my septic mound?
We just moved into a home and it has a septic mound. It has been covered with snow and now that its melting we found a large hole (about 2 ft in diameter) on the top. What I really want to know is if it just needs to be filled with dirt or is this a sign of a more serious problem? Is it safe to walk on? My kids have been using the mound as a sledding hill? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

First off, stay off the mound! If a hole has opened up it means the dirt has gone somewhere. The top may have failed and your child could fall into the tank. I'm afraid you will need to have it inspected by a professional.
Second. Never pack down the snow on a mound system. It will freeze! No sledding, no snowmobiles, no grazing animals. A frozen septic is just the worst. (I can attest to that.)
If you just moved in then you need to contact the agent who sold you the home. I know in my county that any home ...(Answered by aGhost2u) |

You have to try to break the ice with an ice chopper than put down allot of salt. Don't try the hot water. A few years ago my car was stuck on allot of ice. I tried rocking it out but after 20 to 30 minutes I got the idea of trying to use hot water to melt the ice around the tires. Well the ice melted and re-froze in a way that it was as smooth as glass. After that the wheels had no traction. The car didn't even shudder when they spun....(Answered by rakaog) |

Suggestions on how to get spilled melted candle wax out of brand new upholstry?
I recently spilled melted candle wax all over my mother-in-law's brand new couch and I feel terrible. I've tried melting it with a hair dryer, I've tried putting ice cubes on it, I've tried scraping it off and this has led to the material starting to tear and discolor. Any suggestions??
it's not on the cusion. It's on the arm, so I can't flip it over. I've tried the iron thing, it didnt do anything. how long does the iron have to be on there for?

The color of the couch,
and color of the wax along with the type of fabric need to be taken into consideration, also if the fabric can take the heat from an iron will determine how much the stain will show. I believe all the suggestions regarding applying heat are the most well known tips. A suggestion if none of these work, purchase a very soft fringed throw in the same or contrasting color and casually drape over the arm. I did this when my dog used the arm of the couch as a teething ring. All the best........(Answered by roeskats) |

Melted coating on prongs of plug?
The plug for my washing machine has a black coating on it's three prongs which appears to have melted. Now the prongs won't fit into the wall socket (also a smell of burnt rubber). It's a moulded plug so, assuming the problem is within the plug, I will have to cut off to replace it. Is it safe to do this, or might the problem lie in the wall socket?
Thanks for all the advice it was very helpful. I think I'll replace the plug and try it in another socket as well as getting the original socket looked at. ... (Asked by Philippa P) |

It is safe to remove and replace, but this is probably not the source of the problem. Melted connections are typically caused by a current flow greater than the rating of the device, often due to a short to ground or between the grounded and ungrounded conductors. Check internal connections at the outlet, check the actual fit of a good plug into the receptacle - loose is not good. Receptacles are cheap, I would replace it as well anyway. Use an ohm meter to verify the appliance is ok. Have a professional electrican or appliance repair person do anything you ...(Answered by gare) |
