What kind of carpet pad to use for noise reduction?
My landlord requested to cover 80% of a hard-wood floor with a carpet after my neighbor below complained on footstep noise. They say they may accept rugs but only with padding. I am only able to find pads helping to protect carpets from wearing and stop rugs slipping on a floor but not to cancel the noise. Solution must be cheap. Professional acoustic pads like the ones for sound recording studios are too expensive.

Even if you have to use area rugs, you can use the padding intended for wall to wall carpet under them. Just 3 days ago I did this over a laminate floor that was too noisy. You can buy padding at most home improvement stores. It costs between $4 and $9 per sq. yard. You can pad a 12x12 rug for $80 or less. Just stick the pad to the bottom of the rug with double sided tape. Cut the pad 4" short of the edge of the rug. This will provide adequate noise reduction and increase comfort....(Answered by fakest forest) |

I have tried both and definitely prefer a feather bed mattress topper to the memory foam. The feather topper will last longer than the memory foam, will cost less and is hypo-allergenic... Also, keep in mind that mattress mites can't get into feather toppers (if you choose a quality one). Another thing about memory foam is that if you get hot easily in bed and sweat, memory foam makes it worse, since it is basically a synthetic fiber that doesn't let your skin breath. As for feather toppers, they keep you warm in the winter and ...(Answered by The ReDesign Diva) |

How to remove pieces of Carpet Pad STUCK to finnished, Pine Hardwood Floor?
My mother and I are re-doing a room upstairs in our house to turn it into a nusery for my baby, who will be here in June. Anyway, we're pulling up the carpet and most of the pad came up on it's own. Other pieces are STUCK to the pine floors. The floors are finnished already so we would like to avoid damage to the wood and original finnish as much as possible. Is there anyway to remove the stuck pieces of carpet pad? we've tried scraping and a few other experimental things but nothing seems to work. Any Suggestions?

there is no easy method to your question. goo-gone probably wont work, nor any other "be gone" type of solution. you will probably need to get a razor scraper to get the pad off which means you will probably need to have the floor refinished. i would get right on this if you want the room ready by june. im really sorry, but pad will stick to flooring if its been there for some time. good luck ok?...(Answered by hammy) |
