Any electricians out there that can advise me on plugs?
In my kitchen there are 3 walls with plugs.
Wall 1 - all plugs work.
Wall 2 - 1 out of 3 plugs work
Wall 3 - 1 out of 3 plugs work
Why is this? I now have extension leads all over my kitchen and it looks an eye sore. A plug tester says that there is no power in the plugs & yes the fuses have been checked in the fuse junction box.
Any genuine ideas?
I suppose I should have said that it's the SOCKETS that I have the problem with not the plugs....doh!!!

In many cases the oultets in your house are ran in circuit
ya never know exactly how someone may have it rigged up , but in many cases one of those outlets will burn out and electricity will not make it to the rest , i do not advise someone that dosent know what they are doing fooling with electricity. , but if you decide to try anyway , atleast turn the main off and make sure there's no power first. good luck...(Answered by pliskitt) |

I am looking for information on plugs that can be used to cut back on standby power leaks.?
I seen a short report on the news about these plugs. The reporter talked about the amount of wattage that household appliances and other devices use when not in use. All of this adds money to your hydro bill and I would like to purchase these plugs. The ones shown were orange in color. Some states have laws prohibiting the amount of wattage leakage to just a few watts of power.
I seen this on a Canadian News channel. I am not sure which one it was. It sure sounded good though, the plugs they ... (Asked by Lynda) |

Have you tried searching the web for these plugs. I just unplug my cell phone charger and all other recharging stations when not in use along with my computer and printer as these are the biggest culprits. I saw a report on the internet about which appliances still draw power even if they are supposedly turned off and now I just unplug them. The plugs would be a great help if they work....(Answered by prettybird) |

It's not completely dangerous to use the 2/3 prong adapters on your house. What you may be forgetting about is that the third prong is the ground. Operating anything electrical without a ground is not safe. A simple solution could be to buy new recepticles and rewire them, rather than replacing all the wiring. These are about 70 cents apiece at any Home Depot or even at Wal-Mart.
As for the water pressure read my answer to the other question you posted about it....(Answered by jeff_marasso) |

is it safe to leave 4 plugs plugged into an extension lead that's on 24 hours a day?
the plugs are for a fish tank heater, filter light and for our telephones
the phone and pump/light are all 3amps, the heater is 5 amps. the extension lead is spike/surge protected so i assume if anything does go wrong it will just cut out and not catch fire or anything???!!!

It is generally not recommended, mostly because most extension cords are just not made to handle a prolonged 'load'. But, I have had items plugged into extension cords for years and have never had a problem, and don't know anyone who had a fire as a result of an extension cord.
If you are worried, periodically test the extension cord to see if it is warm or damaged. If you can feel warmth through the insulation, then the load is too much and it is a potential hazard.
If you are really worried, or if you do find ...(Answered by Wundt) |

You may have a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) on one or more of your outlets. These outlets have a test and reset button on the receptacle. These circuit breakers prevent electric shock if they ever come in contact with water. It is very easy to trip one by touching the test button, if this is the case just press the reset button. In my home there is one in my kitchen. It runs the kitchen and spare bathroom. So, two or more rooms may be affected by one GFCI. Locate all of your outlets that are affected to see ...(Answered by CCM) |

The building code says you're supposed to only have 1/8 of an inch space around these "plugs" (Electricians call them receptacles) This is so cold air doesn't enter the house. If an normal cover does not cover them there are extra large cover plates. If there is still a gap - who ever did the job was way off in ther sheetrock cutting but never fear you can spackle them by laying fiberglass tape across the gap and spreading your spackle or joint compound over it. (This will be with drywall supplies in the hardware store) You'll have to do ...(Answered by Philip N) |
