My self-propelled lawn mower has to be pushed!?
The engine of the Honda lawn mower starts and runs perfect but it has to be pushed. It started doing this last year but now it's terrible. The cable was out to the end of the adjustment so I replaced it and that didn't help one bit. What else could it be?
It's got a belt that seems OK. It could be stretched, but how do you tell. If it's the transmission, I'll junk it.

I agree with the first poster, your belt is off. Turn the mower over and you will see that between the blades and the motor is a pulley. That pulley should have a belt around it that travels to another pulley between the rear wheels.
The 'clutch' so to speak is basically a lever that pushes or pulls the belt tighter, the tighter the belt, the faster the wheels turn.
Between the rear wheels is a small box that transfers power from the pulley on top of it to the axle. It is possible that this box (called a ...(Answered by RDHamm) |

My outlets are the old kind where the wires are pushed into the back for contact. How do I change these?
Some have 3 groups of wires pushed into the back. How do I change these out? I've noticed that the new oulets only have room for 2 wires (because these wires are a little thicker than the hole that can be used on the back of the outlet for connection). I know that I will need to install boxes because these did not have any. Any advice besides hire an electrician? I live in the country so we are not required by law to contract out we can do it ourselves.

when you have more than 1 wire in a box (outlet boxs only)all wires must be pig tailed. this means take all the whites and another piece of wire about 6 to 8 inches long and wirenut them together this tail is what connects to the outlet. do the same for blacks and grounds. make sure you have boxes installed they make boxes with ears that are designed for this use (cut-in boxes). turn off the power! I would call a electrician....(Answered by Jaybird) |

why is it so hard to push copper fittings into the pipe i was trying to solder?
after pushing very hard, the pipe went into the fitting. to take it out, i had to rock it from side to side or hit it with a putty knife to get it out. Is it normal? or maybe when i cut the pipe with the tube cutter, the pipe became out of round? i thought i cut it very slowly already. i used the 4in1 tool already and it was still very tight. should i hit them in with a block of wood or something? any good advise out there? thanks.

It is probably the quality of the pipe or the fittings. I have experienced loads of copper piping that is difficult to fit and then the next load is fine. I have soldered copper pipe from 1/8" to 8" and always get some bad stuff.
The quality of materials has gone downhill the last 20 years. It could be crap made in another country and imported and/or the tolerances are bad.
Make sure you have a good quality cutter and don't tighten the cutter too hard when cutting. This will keep the pipe from having an edge on the outside of it. ...(Answered by Obsean) |

First off, the parts are out there. Check local landscape supply and mower dealers, I am sure you will find the parts. I recently found carb rebuild kit for (I think) late 70's toro riding mower, at a mom and pop mower dealer and supply store, and those stores always have tons of old parts in stock( sometimes thats all they have lol). Dont be a cheapskate and risk blowing yourself up, find the parts. Usually, when an exact replacement isnt available, there is a part close enough that can be substituted. A good store wont mind opening up a ...(Answered by DBP) |
