Refinishing Copper?
I recently repaired a lovely copper bowl of mine, and am okay with it. But now I'm thinking I should maybe refinish it after taking the existing finish off (see other question for full saga). I would like to do this myself, as I don't have much money to take it somewhere to get it redone. Advice?
I already took the finish off. But now I think I want to put it back on. That's what I need help on.

Use any lacquer thinner to remove the finish and buff the bare metal with:
1. 0000 grade steel wool. (If the existing scratches are rougher than the steel wool.)
2. Jeweler's rouge.
3. Copper polish.
After you have the polish you want, spray it with a lacquer finish....(Answered by httnmrtt) |

if you are going to hire, they should have a sample coler chart on some scrap wood. about the poly. I found that the real shiny stuff is the hardest. it will not scratch as easy ase the others. its best to remove everything, pictures also from the room that is being done. there will be dust nomatter what kind of sander he uses. its best to seal off the room with tape and plastic from the others. dont assume they will do it. this will take a minimun of 2 days to complete....(Answered by fixitall123) |

Has anyone had their kithcen sink (enamel) refinished?
Has anyone had their kithcen sink (enamel) refinished? If yes, is there a specific way it needs to be done? I have been told that it will turn out to be worst than what you start with. It will be ok for the first few months, but with the pots and pans banging it will take off the finish and look ugly. I have been told that refinishing works well with bath tubs and bath sinks, but not with kitchen sinks. Is this true? We cant replace the sink coz it is sitting on ... (Asked by helpme) |

Most of that type of furniture is Veneered. That means that the wood grain you see doesn't go very deep. it is real wood but just a thin covering of it ( some thing like plywood) they would build the furniture out of a stable solid wood that had this thinner wood glued to the surface for a better look) You probably have a very nice piece of furniture. What can you do. First Clean it well. use Murphy's oil soap ,mix to directions and wipe down the surface really well but don't saturate the wood with alot water. let ...(Answered by Pastor_H) |

Some of the things that cause cabinets to turn yellow are cigarette smoke or exposure to sunlight and flourescent lights. Before you refinish your cabinets first use a product such as Cabinet magic which you can find in the home improvement stores. Try taking the doors down and clean the laminate part good. If that does not help then start looking further....
The frames may be in great shape but before you consider refacing check the construction of the box of the cabinet first. Look under the sink and see if there is any water damage, etc. ...(Answered by Angel W) |
