Before you start stripping and refinishing, try removing the white mark with "Magic Eraser" those little things are amazing. if you are going to hire, they should have a sample coler chart on some scrap wood. about the poly. I found that the real shiny stuff is the hardest. it will not scratch as easy ase the others. its best to remove everything, pictures also from the room that is being done. there will be dust nomatter what kind of sander he uses. its best to seal off the room with tape and plastic from the others. dont assume they will do it. this will take a minimun of 2 days to complete....(Answered by fixitall123)

That means that the wood grain you see doesn't go very deep. it is real wood but just a thin covering of it ( some thing like plywood) they would build the furniture out of a stable solid wood that had this thinner wood glued to the surface for a better look) You probably have a very nice piece of furniture. What can you do. First Clean it well. use Murphy's oil soap ,mix to directions and wipe down the surface really well but don't saturate the wood with alot water. let ...(Answered by Pastor_H)

If that does not help then start looking further.... The frames may be in great shape but before you consider refacing check the construction of the box of the cabinet first. Look under the sink and see if there is any water damage, etc. ...(Answered by Angel W)
