Did I get ripped off for roof repairs?
On a Tuesday morning I found a stain on a bedroom ceiling, indicating there was a leak in my roof somewhere. The weather forecast for Wed said torrential rains were coming so I went to the first contractor I found. The worker walked around on the side of the roof where the leak was found, hammered a few nails, sealed down some shingles, caulked a few areas and left with $450 of my money. Did I get ripped off, or because it was short notice and in light of the impending bad weather, was this cost justified ... (Asked by carolaeponziokeith) |

450 bucks seems a bit much for what you've discribed...however, .. [there are 2 views to this..] IF the man's 'experiance' has solved the problem, prevents further leakage, saves you haveing to replace or do a substancial 'patch-works', and identified and repaired the problem....he has been well payed.
On the other hand, if your roof is in need of replacement, if it has out lived it's factory designated durrability, and you have expectation that postponeing the inevitable with supperfical attention.., ... ... well.... you get what you pay for....(Answered by olddogwatchin) |

One way is to use carpet tape. It is double sided sticky and you can get it at the home improvement centers. Cut a piece a little longer than the tear, carefully slide it behind the rip and adhere it to one side (on the inside of the seam) so that half of the tape is exposed and half attached, line the other side up precisely over the exposed tape and press from the outside to adhere.
There are leather glues that will adhere, but you have to overlapp the leather and you will probably get some seepage on ...(Answered by eskie lover) |

what is a ripped 2x4 and how do i move a wall?
here's my problem. the bathroom was roughed in at 61.5" wide for a regular sized bath. to install the new bath i need it to be 60.25" so i need to bring the wall in 1.25". i suspect the difference is because the new cement board is much thinner now than the old stuff.
so someone said i should 'rip" my 2x4's on a table saw and use that. someone please explain how this works?
i'm using 1/2 cement board for the tile. the wall needs to come in 1 1/4 inch in order for the wall ... (Asked by dorioncanada) |

You can set the guide on your circular saw to 1¼" and rip it lengthwise or with the grain (as opposed to a crosscut). If you don't have a guide you can buy one at the hardware store for about $5.00. Or you could scribe the 1¼" with a tape measure and pencil. Once you have the 1¼" furring strips, cut them to length and nail them to the existing studs, making sure you are nailing through the 1¼" side and not the 1½" side. Now you can install your cement board.
If this is too complicated you can go to ...(Answered by BearDown) |

First you need to get in there any get out any dirt or dust that you can then try a product that I love called Loc-tite. Comes in a tube, couple of bucks. You can find it in hardware stores like Home Depot ,Lowes and Wal mart and also Target. The clear adhesive-not silicone! It comes out cloudy but dries clear and when its down you can wipe any coming out the edge and then weight it down till it dries. After I would use a tiny brush or even a toothpick and "seam" the edge. I use it to tile ...(Answered by Ghostmom) |

Can I kill mold without ripping out the wall?
I had an ice dam on my house, over the past couple of days water has been slowly trickling into my laundry room which has old plaster walls covered in wall paper and paint. The wall and the edge of the ceiling is wet and a little soft in places, and I think mold might be starting to grow, in some places the water running down the walls is orange (I don't know why, possibly dye from the wallpaper, or something in the wood framing, the house is very old). I wanted to remodel this room eventually ... (Asked by Lindsey) |

A common misnomer is that a bleach/water solution will kill mold. IT WILL NOT. You need an industrial strength bleach to accomplish this. Without removing the wall board, you will not be able to safely remove the mold. If you wait, you can only hope the water dries out so the mold doesn't prosper.
Kilz primer will not be effective if the mold is continuing to grow. You have to remove the mold, dry things out, then and only then can you encapsulate safely.
There are many reasons mold is dangerous, and that ...(Answered by tim r) |

I'd say about 350 in labor. Suggestion self-stick tiles are honestly not a very good choice trust me they almost always peal up. Sherwin Williams carries laminate flooring in a hardwood finish for $1 per square foot with 30 year warranty, they also have a tile pattern for $2.19 sq. ft.. Installation on this kind of floor should run you between $180 and $240 ($1.50 to $2 per sq. ft to install) considering the future this may be a bettor choice will definitely help at resale and it's not much price difference. you have 120 square foot....(Answered by Mr. Mister) |
