Help! teeny little black bugs came thru my screen last night and were biting me!?
They are dark, roundish, and have tiny silvery wings. They are smaller than a pin head but their bite is painful! I can kill them by squishing then easily with the tip of my forefinger. When I sat outside on my deck today a dozen or so bit me and I had to go inside. What are they? Can I spray my screens with something? I live in northern Illinois.
They're not fleas. They are smaller. (I know what fleas look like and what flea bites look like from when I had pets).
I guess the thought of bugs flying thru my ... (Asked by Karrose) |

I'd guess either noseeums (yes, that is a real name LOL) or another bug called Minute Pirate Bugs. I was out the other day and was swarmed by what I thought were noseeums, but really they were too big to be those, so I did some research and turns out they had to be these irritating pirate bugs. Normally they dont' bite people and eat other bugs, but for some reason at the end of summer and start of fall they start biting people. They don't do it for blood and dont' inject venom. In fact, ...(Answered by Brenda T) |

I have these nasty little bugs all over my pepper plants and I need to get rid of them.?
They are tiny, little, booger looking things that are white when they're small and turn yellowish when they mature. They cling to the fresh flower pods and the bottoms of the leaves and I cannot get rid of them! I tried the dish soap approach and habenero pepper juice in a spray bottle, but it doesn't seem to phase them at all. The plants are healthy and flowering but whenever a new flower appears, these bastards quickly attach to it. If anyone has an idea of what they may be, please let me know. I live in south Florida and ... (Asked by Matthew) |

I have a cactus-like plant (not sure what it is) - Not sure if I should do something about it?
I wish I could be more precise. I tried to research it, but can't find anything.
It's about 6-8 inches long, but still growing. It's got thick green leaves (High water retention), and a small trunk (about half my little finger). It seems to be doing fine whether I plant it in dark soil or cactus soil. It doesn't go dormant in the winter. The leaves are long and thick, and kind of roundish and massive. I believe it's of the cactus family, but requires more water than most cactuses.
If anyone could identify it, I'd be grateful.
But the question I wanted ... (Asked by Opinionatedkitten) |

I have many succulent plants that have leaves with high water retention and stems much the way you described yours. Because they grow so well in my sunny window they start lopping over sideways under their own weight. What I do next is really cool because it creates more plants.....and it's common for many succulents to behave as I describe in the following paragraphs.
So, what I do to help them out is to prune them back by cutting the stem at the halfway point or sometimes even lower depending on how much I want to cut off. ...(Answered by ●Gardener●) |

If the white puffies are collected around the base of the spines, then that's normal. It's just part of the plant.
If the white puffies are all over the green parts of the cactus (away from the spines), then you most likely have an insect infestation. A simple spraying of diluted dish soap in water ( about a teaspoon per quart) will help to kill off the insects, if you have them....(Answered by Gary D) |

Fruit flies (I think)?
I'm not sure if I have fruit flies, but I'm definitely ready to do anything I can to get rid of them. It's been a couple of months, and I discovered a couple of rotten apples in the back of my cabinet, which I got rid of. I've cleaned EVERYTHING and have just sprayed an herbal insecticide all over the kitchen. I've also made a trap of fruit juice in a plastic-wrap covered glass with holes in the plastic - hopefully if they collect in there, I'll know they're fruit flies.
They fly slow and heavy like fruit flies, but they ... (Asked by thalesgirl) |

Have you made SURE that you have removed all rotton fruit/veggies from the area? Wash the area with bleach water, ALL OVER. That should take care of it. Good luck. I have had this problem at work and doing the above things helped out within a day....(Answered by Hot Betty J) |

What kind of bugs are these?
These just showed up in our computer room out of nowhere. They are very small bugs, wingless, andvery pale tan in color, almost transparent. They don't fly but I swear they just magically appear out of thin air! They don't bite or sting but I've felt one or two on me and they're very annoying. Most of them seem to show up on the computer monitor. Maybe they're drawn to the heat. We live in Michigan and it's been warm and humid the past few days. I'm wondering if something hatched or somethig, but we've never had these in our ... (Asked by lillith6662000) |

What type of Houseplant do I have?
I have been given a plant that my Mum got as an unwanted Christmas present!
Anyway we don't know what type of plant it is but I really like it want to be able to care for it properly.
It has bright red flowers that look a bit like poppies and oval-roundish green leaves with lighter green patches on them. (Hope that makes sense)
The plant seems quite sensitive to changes, earlier this afternoon when I went into the kitchen, it looked like it was dying so I gave it lots of water even though the compost was moist and now it ... (Asked by whippetgirl2) |

It sounds like a cyclamen. If it is, it will have a large bulb with the top just sticking up out of the soil.
Keep it on a light windowsill. It's best to water it by standing the pot in a bowl of water coming half-way up the pot for about 10 minutes. If the top of the bulb keeps getting wet, it might rot.
After a while, the flowers will fade. When they are no longer decorative, pinch the whole flower stem out and it will grow some more.
You'll find that from time to time you get ...(Answered by old know all) |

How can I get rid of flour weevils?
I swear I am not an unclean person, and I don't consider my kitchen unclean. That being said, does anyone else have experience with these kitchen bugs? What are they? How harmful are they? Should I just keep everything in plastic containers from now on?
The first bugs I found, they're little black roundish ones, I'd seen them before, they infested my self-rising flour, which I hardly ever use. My mom told me to keep all my flour in the fridge, because the bugs actually *hatch out* of the flour, but keeping it cold will slow the process. I don't know ... (Asked by Mary) |

The flour at my grandmother's house used to get those, too. She'd use the flour anyway (gross!!). The bugs don't actually hurt anything, but GROSS!! Anyway, there are some very easy ways to prevent getting weevils and other bugs in flour, etc. First of all, go through and throw out any infested items. If you use a flour canister or other container, empty it and disinfect it. If you have some flour that isn't currently infested, put it in the freezer. This will kill any eggs, etc. Thoroughly clean all the shelves ...(Answered by Kay3535) |
