Q.
I need advise on a sander for new wood floor installation.?
I am installing wood floors in 3 bedrooms. Only can empty, install, and replace one at a time. So that means sander rental 3 times. I would rather invest in a sander to own. If anyone has used a modest sander in the 200.00 price range that works well on wood floors let me know. Thank You ... (Asked by thenewsupercfl)

I used a belt sander, and although it's a lot of bending and resting on knees, it worked great. Plus, it versatile enough that it's future use wasn't confined soley to sanding floors. I got the large DeWalt model, if you use one that's too small for the job, you'll only burn the motor out. At a minimum, get one that has adjustable speeds. Good luck...(Answered by stretch)

I need to buy a quality detail sander?
I am sanding the paint off wainscoting. I need a small detail sander to sand the beading on the wainscoting. I will also use this sander to sand the individual window pane frames. I need it high quality, removing a lot of material and light weight since I am a female. I bought a ryobi detail sander but it hardly oscillates. any recommendations? ... (Asked by denimead)

Try a Dremel. It has an assortment of tips for use in small conditions. It is easy to handle. I am a gal and use them and actually own 2. Go to your local Lowes or Dixieline hardware store and check them out. Dremel is a quality tool and will be easy for you to do many jobs. Good luck. I've included a link so you can find a dealer in your area. I've been using my older one 25 years and only bought a new one because I misplaced the older one....(Answered by sarah92592)

A.
Number 1 has it correct. What will you use it for? Belt sanders are for heavy duty work usually, though all grades of belts are sold. Pad/vibrator types are good for light work, are rectangular on the pad, lighter weight than a belt sander and do an adequate job often. They can also take any grade of paper, and/or drywall sanding mesh. Mouse type, or orbitals are also good for light work, and the nose gets into corners easily. Sanding belts and pads are sold for all 3, and you can improvise ...(Answered by ever1wolf)

There should be an adjustment screw that will allow you to adjust the tracking of the belt. I am not familiar with your model but, they all have one somewhere on them. It may be a knob on the front or even a screw hole in the back of the sander. It may be labeled, track adjust or something of that order...(Answered by Jeep Driver)

Q.
Sanding question - I am removing and old finish from my railings - need advise on a mini sander?
I have a 5" diameter random orbital sander that works beautifully on large surfaces. But for the insides of the balusters I need something smaller. So, I have the Ryobi mini orbital sander 12,000 rpm. Unfortunately, this thing takes 5 times the work of the 5" sander. Anyone have any recommendations for a smaller orbital sander or the like that will do the job faster for me? (I do not have an air compressor so the Chicago Pnuematic Mini Orbital Sander) is out of the question - although it would probably have been great!) Thank you! The Ryobi is ... (Asked by Can of Corn)

If the unit you are questioning is the one I've used before, I highly reccommend it. Have to assume its the orbital unit, weighs about 25-35 pounds, probably a 9 or 10 inch head. I've rented that unit several times from Orek to clean carpet with the brush head. Does a great job. Have never used it for any other purpose, i.e., sanding, polishing, etc. Wish I could afford one! (I do not now nor have I ever worked for Orek)...(Answered by Dan)

Q.
Is there a dust collection system or 'dust collection skirt' for the PERIMETER of a random orbital sander?
Is there a dust collection system or 'dust collection skirt' for the PERIMETER of a random orbital sander? Note: in place of the usual dust bag, I already use a shop vac vacuum cleaner which sucks up dust through the holes in the sanding pad. The vacuum attachment I am looking for for the PERIMETER of the sanding pad is to capture the dust that escapes the PERIMETER area which makes it impossible to sand in a truly dust free manner. Thanks, Sandt ... (Asked by Sandt22)

There is a line of tools out now called FESTOOL. They provide an almost complete dust free environment. A bit on the pricey side. But some of the best out there. You can search the tool name or there's an outfit called WOODCRAFT that carries them. Someone also makes a sanding table. It is a box, basicly, that has holes in it and the dust falls into it and the vaccuum sucks it out of there. Don't know if they work or not though. Good Luck....(Answered by Joel A)

Q.
What is difference between rotary and orbital sanders?
... (Asked by POOCH)
View Entire Question | Report Abuse | Similar Questions | See it in Y!
A.
The sanding "foot" in a rotary sander spins around the centre point. In an orbital sander it does not spin but orbits around the centre point in the same way that the Earth orbits around the Sun, except usually in a circle instead of the elliptical orbit that planets have. Rotaries are usually cheaper as the technology is simpler but an orbital will give a smoother finish. Fun sanding!...(Answered by the real swiss tony)
