The spiders are attracted to insects, which are attracted to garbage. Clean out under the house. Mice probably live under the house in the garbage, and snakes eat mice. A cat will keep the mouse problem down, and will scare the snakes away. Also, be wary of quick-fixes like dumping things on the ground. Animals have a way of learning to get around obstacles to get to food, and you might end up attracting more of what you want to avoid. Fruit flies love coffee grounds, and spiders love fruit flies... Typically framing lumber is usually spruce, pine or fir. Using the trees off your own property is great. Hemlock is in the same family and just as stable when properly kiln dried(this is key). i bought a package of two for about $6.00. it so was not worth the money. one of them went off by itself in the middle of the night ...so since you cant reset them i had to throw it away. what is better is a mouse trap that is also enclosed but on the inside is just a regular ol mouse trap. it's easy to set and you dont have to see the dead mouse either. you just lift the front of the cover and pull down the release button and it lets go ...(Answered by yesiamalesbian)
