Q.
Do plants and gardens like coffee grounds?
Is it ok to dump my coffee grounds in my plants and seedlings. Some people have told me the plants like it and others have told me they don't. What's the scoop. ... (Asked by Joe K)

A.
Coffee grounds and even room-temperature coffee can give plants a shot of nitrogen, which prevents plants from getting sickly and keeps leaves green and not yellow. Unless the plants are very sensitive to pH, the mild acidity of coffee isn't going to hurt them that much, and other materials (such as wood ash, epsom salts or gypsum) can be added to cancel out the acidity. Most vegetables and berries enjoy a mildly acidic pH anyhow, so it should be great!...(Answered by Jeff)

Q.
How do I get rid of a Concord Grapevine?
We bought this house last year and there was a BIG concord grapevine growing in the back yard. We left it alone because we weren't ready to start working in the yard yet. Now we're getting everything in the yard set in place where we want it and we have realized that we don't want the grapevine. We hacked it off and are going to scoop out the roots tomorrow. I was told that we may need to poor some kind of poison there to keep it from coming back. Is this true? And if so, what do I get? ... (Asked by tom8o)

A.
Dig it up and try to get the main root out. If you think you didn't get it all, pour some white vinegar directly on the spot where you got the last part of the root. That should do it. Good luck. I hope this helps....(Answered by organic gardener)

Q.
How do I take care of the dead spots in the yard my dogs have created?
I scoop up the solids but I still get dead spots. The biggest problem is where they urinated all winter. There is a large dead area where I am afraid the soil won't grow anything. I don't want a dog run, I have fenced off the area so they have to go somewhere else. I know it is a lot of work to have two medium sized dogs and a nice yard but I am willing to do the extra work. Any suggestions will be helpful. I am also going to post a similar question under pets. ... (Asked by Sue Chef)

At Wal-Mart in the pet section they sell a product called invisible fence. Just spray it around the area that you do not want your dogs using. I had the same problem with my male Lab watering the shrubs in the front of the house during the winter. I guess it was too cold for him to make all the way out back to do his duty....(Answered by kristal d)

Use a potting soil if you are going to put it in a pot... here is why... Soil in the ground is very different from the soil you would use in a pot... it won't have good enough drainage... without making this too difficult to understand... do this... Grab a sponge...soak it in water and hold it flat as if you were laying it on the counter or something... it holds water right? now hold it vertical over the sink and watch what happens... all the water flows out... its called a perched water table... the ground is good ...(Answered by kayakakas)

Garderners and traditional farmers use this tool to dig holes of about 5 or 6 inches in diameter, to plant seedlings / saplings.
