the proper way is to scrape, sand, primer, then paint. there are many types of tools to help with any of these steps, get the ones that you need. to do anything less will result in you just wasting your time since the paint job won't last. prep work is 90% of any good paint job. and probably why the paint is failing now....(Answered by car dude)

If you just bought it call the store and tell them to come out there and fix it. These are shipped to the retailer broken down to conserve space on the truck, and assembled by the retailer, so my guess is that a nylon bushing is missing from between two parts, causing the rub....(Answered by Peter)

A.
A door out of alignment usually has a cause. The hinge screws may just be loose. The hinge could be worn or bent. Water could have caused the floor to swell. I'd try to find the cause before cutting the door. If the closed door fits the jamb nicely and you determine the door just needs a trim then mark the bottom of the door while the door is hanging. Place a ~1/2" board on the floor and against the door and use it to draw a line on the door. This will match the door to the floor's contour. ...(Answered by Foghorn L)

Concrete / Oil, Scrapes and Gouges?
We have a concrete driveway. Our car is OK, but other people who visited us, left oil spots. What is the best way to remove oil? Is it possible to remove the spots completely? If not, can I paint the area with paint or concrete? Can scrapes and gouges be completely repaired, or will I still see them after repairing? ... (Asked by Kay)

that is why some people get blacktop driveways. if it is a recent occurrence you can put kitty litter on it to absorb some of the grease nothing will take it all-- there are some strong detergents and steam cleaning .....helpful but not 100% a big KEEP OFF SIGN repairs to gouges are always looks worse that the damage--scrapes should be left alone.THE BAD NEWS IS that concrete will always crack too. so you are in for a mess.....don't think about putting a thin coat on it as a repair it will flake off sooner than later. Spalling is ...(Answered by Mars)

I am scraping the "popcorn" ceiling in my garage...suggestions? I plan to repaint on the bare drywall after...
My garage had some serious areas where tape was coming undone and the texture was falling because of it...was going to scrape around those areas, retape, and retexture but got frustrated because then I knew I would have to paint it all and the old stuff would just come off when it got painted...so now I am scraping all the old popcorn off....suggestions on where to go from here? Thanks! ... (Asked by frozenfun)

A.
I have done a LOT of work on ceilings with various textures.... If you are dead set on scraping the entire ceiling, instead of repairing it, I would suggest that you use a floor scraper, and lots of plastic sheeting. Wear safety glasses and a dust mask, to keep the stuff out of your eyes and mouth, hehehe. MOST popcorn ceiling texture is made out of styrofoam beads, or a paper mache' type product... it usually does NOT contain ANY asbestos. Just take one of the beads and split it, to see which type you have, if ...(Answered by thewrangler_sw)

Get your square footage, length x height so 20,20,20,20 x 6 equals 480 sq. ft. go to your local paint store and get a recommendation on material to use and cost for that area, also cost of tools Labour is probably worth 50 cents a sq ft or $240.00. Add the labour and material together and Bob's your uncle Good Luck...(Answered by kidd411ca)

A.
Unlikely. May have been some kind of paint. If the pits are really shallow you can polish them out with jeweller's rouge and a buffing pad on a drill. Takes a bit of time. Look on internet for supplier. But first just check they are pits and not the hard edges of what you scraped off. It can be hard to tell as they feel the same under a finger nail...(Answered by Snowlizard)

when working with old lead base paint on windows you need to be very careful. Keep the surface wet when scraping and use a hepa vacuum to clean up the debris. Put all scrapings into a plastic bag and tape it shut. use gloves and a good quality dust mask when working with lead based paint. This stuff is dangerous so be careful....(Answered by Vic F)
