A.
if it's a craftsman, liftmaster, or chamberlain (all made by the same company with the same parts), it probably has stripped gears. as said before, they are plastic and strip out easily. the gear replacement kit is available at most garage door companies or on-line if ya want to go that way. open the outer case, if you see white powder laying in the case, that is your problem. if it's another brand, open the case, some brands have interior belts, easily replaced....(Answered by handsinpants2)

Q.
7hp vertical shaft Briggs, rocker arm just hanging , can not adjust to hold against push rod , why?
Went to start lawn mower and would not start and I could hear a pop. Pulled valve cover and rocker arm just hanging, with adjusting nut all the way down it will not put pressure on push rod. I have not torn it down yet. If I hold the rocker in position, and rotate engine, I can feel the lobe on the cam. Does this engine have a standard type of lifter? Since I can feel the cam, I thought maybe a bad lifter may be the problem. ... (Asked by jake-jake@sbcglobal.net)

Q.
How to change the seals on a snapper drive shaft?
I have removed the wheels on a snapper 33" ride on, in order to replace, the worn seals on teh drive shaft, and have encountered a ring on the shaft which prevent me drawing the shaft towards the gear box, which has been locked onto the shaft by driving it on at an angle. This ring has two blind holes in it, presumably used by a tool to lock and unlock the ring to the shaft Am I going about this the right way, or should I be drawing the shaft out through the other side? Wow. Interesting. An open mine shaft? There's no way to fill it. An enginered solution is probably needed. I'd think it would consist of some sort of a plug, with a drain to the outside of your foundation to prevent pressure buidup in the shaft below the plug. I don't see any way for it to be a DIY project. I'd love to meet you at the Depot for lunch sometime and talk about how it turns out! (Best prime rib sandwich in Butte County!) The air shaft in my bedroom frequently produces a knocking/ticking/popping sound. How can I get rid of it?
It has become very annoying. There is no evidence of any dripping, wetness, or leaking. Any idea what might be causing these sounds, and what can be done to stop them? I assume that you are tlaking a long distance from the wall to the outside that you can't get with a vacuume hose. My "run" is about 45' under floor to back wall (condo) I went outside and took the "flaps" off the outlet - so the stuff inside would have no problem getting out. then I disconnected the dryer vent from the wall (pulled the dryer away from wall) duct taped (wow actually used duct tape on a duct, who would have thunk it) the "business end" of my lawn blower to the duct - make a good seal [you cnan ...(Answered by jewells_40)

Q.
Is it dangerous to fix a power lawn mower by straightening a bent shaft?
It's a push mower with a Tecumseh engine and the crank shaft seems to be OK. It's the part of the shaft that extends from the bottom of the engine (the blade is bolted to it) that's bent. I've been able to straighten it quite a bit, but I've heard that it might be dangerous to use the mower once that shaft has been bent. Safe or unsafe? Any advice appreciated! ... (Asked by L. W)

why is a maintainance shaft in an apt building referred to as a "chase"?
... (Asked by mary c)
View Entire Question | Report Abuse | Similar Questions | See it in Y!
A.
Well it's not really a maintenance shaft so to speak. Although by national code it must be accessible for repairs. It is a "chase" because it provides a means for AC ducts, plumbing pipes, electrical conduits, etc... to travel from floor to floor without being very obvious or obtrusive. Chase is just kind of a trade slang, you know like chase-way....(Answered by Matt M)
