Q.
Electric or gas to heat water for showers, which is cheaper?
I currently heat my water tank for our power shower/bath with gas. i have three daughters and they all shower in the morning, the gas is on for three hours to ensure there is enough hot water for all of them. However, our tank has an electric switch connected to the immersion heater in the tank which gives us instant hot water (like using and electric shower). My question is, would it be cheaper to have the water heated by the electrics for 30 minutes while the girls have showers or to heat the whole tank for three ... (Asked by andi_jc)

Sorry to say you seem a bit misinformed?? If as you say , you have an immersion heater in your hot water cylinder, it cannot be 'instant' there is no such thing. It will heat the water in a similar way to the coil in the cylinder. The gas boiler that you use will probably not actually be heating the water for the full three hours , assuming that you have a cylinder stat and other controls, conversely, the immersion heat will never heat enough water for 3 showers in half an hour! I guess that your cylinder is 40gallons ...(Answered by jayktee96)

Every item of fixed apparatus must have a means of isolation for maintenance purposes, and it should be either lockable OFF or visible to the person carrying out the maintenance, Eg if there was no isolator and I was repairing the innards of your shower or cooker and you or someone else turned on the isolator I would get a shock or worse. You can't just use a circuit breaker or fuse for the same reason, and anyway a fuse is only single pole and does not isolate the circuit completely. The neon indicator in some switches uses negligible power if ...(Answered by jayktee96)

I recommend a product called TERRO which the ants will take back to their colony and kill them off. This stuff really works and is very inexpensive. Most hardware or farm supply stores carry it. While you are now only killing off the ones the you see, you need to get rid of the colony to solve the problem altogether....(Answered by prof610)

A.
It has to do with the size of the supply lines and the configuration ot "T's" used to direct the water. The straight line will get more pressure and larger lines will deliver more water than smaller ones. Many hot water heaters use smaller or larger lines than the rest of the house does. I hope this help you....(Answered by Linda D)

You need a bark based potting medium and you can find it at Home Depot (US) or most any store that has a gardening department.
