Season your cast iron skillet this way. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lower both oven racks to bottom positions-line lower rack with foil to catch drippings. Wash skillet inside and out with mild detergent using a stiff brush. Rince and towel dry. Spread a thin coat of melted solid shortening all over skillet including handle (both inside and outside). Place skillet on top rack. Bake for 1 hour. Turn oven off and leave skillet in oven until cool. Do not store lids on pots to all air curculation. Do not wash skillet with soap or you will need to re-season. Hope this helps....(Answered by badwarden)

Scrub the rust off. Dry the skillet completely. Pour a penny-size drop of olive oil onto the skillet and then rub it over the entire surface. Do this after EVERY use. Wipe it down before each use if you are concerned about dust clinging to the oily surface....(Answered by Fin)

I never put my cast iron ware in soap and water. To clean I heat my oven to about 250degrees, spray with Pam or vegetable oil, then coat with salt. Put them in the oven for about 1 hour ( put aluminum foil under iron ware, to catch drips). Take out of oven and then take bbq brush or other abrasive brush and scrub and repeat oven procedure. Last I wipe down with paper towel with a little coating of vegetable oil or Pam and store....(Answered by bblonde29431)

How to remove plastic bag stuck to skillet?
I accidentally touched a plastic english muffin bag to the bottom of a really hot skillet and the plastic stuck to the bottom. I can scrape some of it off but not much. If the bag is stuck on the outside you have a chance. WARM the skillet so that the plastic softens then scrape as much as possible off. Scrub some more and hopefully that will do it. You can find solvents such as Goo Gone that may work, depending on the type of coating (if any) you have on your skillet. If the bag is on the inside I would consider tossing it. Do not use solvents unless you can find something specifically for pots and pans. If you do burn off the plastic try to do it outside if you ...(Answered by swimmom)

Scrub, scrub, scrub with steel wool. Finish with dishwashing liquid and cloth or sponge. Rinse and dry well. Don't worry if a few particles remain. Now, grease the entire inside generously. You can use lard, Crisco, vegetable oil, margarine, whatever. Place skillet in 200 degree oven for a couple of hours. Remove, cool, wipe off any excess gently with a paper towel. Now the secret to using your skillet is never to wash it again. You have successfully "seasoned" it. You can use Pam, olive oil or whatever when you cook in it, but when you are finished, just wipe with ...(Answered by Islander)

Yes. CLR doesn't attack the iron metal, only the metal compounds. Be sure you wash the skillet thoroughly to remove the CLR residue. (Just don't use CLR on aluminum cookware.)...(Answered by TitoBob)

Sounds as though you need to "season" your skillet....Warm your oven to about 250 degrees.Take a paper towel and rub the entire pan with a good vegatable oil or olive oil.Put it in the oven and let it bake for about 2 hours. After it cools wipe it clean.Remember to only wash your skillet with soap and water.Never in the dish washer.Good Luck! I know this works.Ihave several.Peace!...(Answered by bamahotT)
