3 tubes coming out from the top of the cylinder. My best guess would be, water inlet for hard water, outlet tube for softened water, and 1 tube for the bypass. If you can take a picture and post it..........well, you know. Model number should be somewhere on the system. Look for a sticker.. Tubes could also be for brine draw, overflow, backwash....(Answered by )

Normally all you have to do close the shut off valves that lead in and out of it, cut both the copper piping which leads into the softener and the one which leads out and cap the cut pipes off. Then open the by pass valve which is presently closed. Now all of the taps in the house will be serviced with salt untreated water. Don't cut the copper pipes too close to the shut off valves. Leave a small length for a reinstallation with adapter sleeves at a later date....(Answered by ½«gumwrapper)

Install a water softener, if you don't know what this is, it is an appliance that is hooked up to your water lines, it has a resin tank that you fill with salt pellets and the water filters through this and the salt takes out all the minerals that make hard water such as iron (rust) sulfur and you would be amazed at the difference this will make with taste and feel, you will use less soap and laundry will be cleaner. you can rent these or buy your own if you are a home owner I would suggest you ...(Answered by kissybertha)

Any suggestions for buying a water softener for our house?
We are on a continuous feed well. We have 4 kids and 2 adults. Kids are 15 & 16 yr old girls and 8 yr girl and 3 yr old boy. Our well pump is 3/4 HP and we can run all three showers in the house at the same time and no dip in water pressure is noticed. (Not that we EVER run all 3 at once). Any suggestions on DO IT YOURSELF or have it done. Size of units. Any and all comments/suggestions appreciated. Thanks. ... (Asked by Eddie B)

Go to Google and you will find lots of sites that will lead you through the buying and installation processes. If you can do some basic plumbing you should be able to do it yourself. We have well water and the softener has made a tremendous difference in washing, mineral deposit build-up and performance of the hot water heater. The unit itself will probably not cost much more than a few hundred dollars. Expenses will include the cost of salt and extra electricity and water when the unit regenerates. Do not fall for any pitch that promises to soften your water ...(Answered by indyacom)

I had one , no more . un install I know , first get a cooper cutting tool, or saw. cut the water coming into the water softener, weld a cap on the cut off copper pipe usually 3/4 in diameter. do the same with the pipe carrying the soft water out. just don't forget to cut off the main supply water or you will very sorry. Also there are other minor elements to disconnect such electric power (unplugged) and a small water line going into the drain. get ready the water softener is heavy , because the salt pellets ...(Answered by cineone)
