Does it harm a mattress to use it on a platform bed without a box spring?
It would be too high with a box spring, but some people say the mattress will wear out sooner without a box spring. Is that true? The platform bed has storage drawers underneath, and seems more useful than a box spring on a frame. Does anyone have experience with this situation?
We are building the platform with the storage, ourselves, because we couldn't find one to buy!

No harm should come to your mattress if you're using it without box springs. We have a platform bed and just a mattress on it. This type of bed provides more support that a box spring in my opinion, beneath the mattress is solid wood. We like our bed, but we don't have underbed storage. You were fortunate to find a platform bed with storage, ya lucky dog!...(Answered by WWHRD) |

Is a box spring set important for a mattress?
I bought a mattress from Costco and it was two pieces... the bottom box spring set and then the mattress. My bed is really low and it looks funky with both of these, so I gave away the bottom box spring and just use the mattress. I should've asked this before, but is there any advantage to using a box spring other than adding height? I hope I didn't lose back support by using the mattress without it. Thanks a lot in advance!

Well, you sort of answered your question the more description you presented. The manufacturer of the mattress puts a great deal of effort in the final product that ends up in stores. They don't just throw in a box spring for good measure. No pun intended. They do, however design the box spring to complement the mattress. The box spring serves to provide the necessary support the mattress requires. I would find a mattress retailer and order the box spring to match your mattress.

What is the purpose of having a box spring under a mattress?
Just curious. I need to get a new mattress and with a box spring the bed is a little high for my short legs. I wanted to know if I could get away without it.

A box spring is designed to provide support for the mattress when you are using it with a frame that cannot do so. Many old bed frames just had a lip around all four sides. A flexible mattress would just fall through that without a box spring to hold it up. These beds people are describing that have "slats" work fine as a box spring replacement. With today's mattress technology, a mattress with slats will be very comfortable. If a seller is trying to seel you a box spring as part of a warranty, go somewhere else.

How do I hold back the spring-loaded bar of a mousetrap?
I have a traditional wood and metal mousetrap, but the spring-loaded bar is too powerful to be held back with the bar that connects to the trigger. What am I doing wrong?

It isn't too strong for the bar and trigger. I suspect you are not engaging the holding bar with the trigger correctly. There is a "lip" on the trigger which may be worn or bent which is why it does not hold the bar. See if there might be a way to bend the point where the bar is held by the trigger plate so the trigger can hold the bar end better. A lot of times, it is the fault of the point on the trigger plate where it holds the bar which has become worn or damaged over ...(Answered by rowlfe) |
