if they are earthworms, they are very GOOD for your garden. They aerate the soil AND worm poop is good fertilizer. If they are some other kind of worms/larva, then who knows, there's lot of critters in dirt....(Answered by SphincterPudding)

Q.
Lemon tree surgery ...?
About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that a medium-sized branch on my potted lemon tree had torn 2/3 through. The weight of an unripe lemon (which has since been removed), together with gusts of wind, probably caused the damage. To save the branch, I splinted it with toothpicks, wrapped it in masking tape and then with strips of horticultural fleece. To my astonishment, this very branch is showing leaf buds! Is it then possible that the tear will mend, i.e. knit together like a broken bone? It seems like this might be the case, but what do you think? ... (Asked by corvuscorax)

I've sprouted avocado stones. We live in the far south of NZ where it's quite cool. For two years running I had no luck. Then we got a log burner installed and the house is now quite warm, and several have sprouted indoors. Avocado trees grow to about 10 metres, so I dunno what we'll do with them then....(Answered by zee_prime)

Q.
I have tried unsucessfully so many times to grow an avacado from seed. They NEVER last. Any suggestions?
The way I have tried is by putting toothpicks in it and suspending it in water until it sprouts. Then I have planted them when the roots come out. They allways start out well, but within a short time the leaves allways turn black and the plant dies a slow undignified death. I really would like to be successfull with one as I think they are beautifull. I don't think I could put it outside because I live in British Coulmbia, Canada, and I think the winters are too cold. Is the reason because I get them from the supermarket ... (Asked by timethrift)

Yes, there is an alternate method. I have done this several times. It takes a while for the avacado seed to sprout. It makes a beautiful plant even if it doesn't make fruit. These are the easiest instructions I know of and this is a reputable site: "They are also easily sprouted in a well-drained 4- or 5-inch pot of porous, fertile soil. The top of the seed should just barely peek above the surface of the soil. If the soil is kept fairly moist and the temperature is between 60 and 70 degrees, the seed will begin to sprout and a ...(Answered by flipper)

go to a fruit shop ; buy a pineapple cut the head off ( about 30 - 40 mm ) down the pineapple ; take to your garden bed ---plant it in full sun /part shade give it a good drink initially but then only once or twice a week if it is really hot otherwise once a month --- and you will have your own pineapple flowering and fruiting in around 18 months and you can then repeat the cycle with the head from your pineapple you've grown . good luck...(Answered by bill g)

Just a caution, the leaves of the avocado plant are poisonous, so keep out of reach of children and pets who might put it in their mouth. Now that you have a root, you can plant in a pot - but be very careful not to brreaek the root. If it is too long for the pot, gently wrap / curl it around the bottom of the pot. Use light fluffy planting mix. Once the pineapple has scabbed - dried - you can nestle it into the top little bit of moist growing medium in a pot and place in a nice ...(Answered by Barbados Chick)
