How do i grow a venus fly trap?
Ok, i have just brought a venus fly trap and have stored it in a greenhouse. I have given it lots of water including water in the cup the pot is in. At first it looked really healthy but after i repotted it all the traps closed, some went black and some opened back up. I am using tap water, is this ok.
If someone could give me a bit of advice on how to look after it properly this would be great.

I have had a flytrap for over a year now and it is still healthy, it needs a warm place, no daughts, plenty sun but not direct sunlight, keep the soil moist but don't over water, collect rain or river water and feed it with that, they are very sensitive to checmicals in tap water. Don't re-pot it, they don't like that, and they don't tend to grow very big so it should be fine its orignal pot. Feed it twice a week with a small fly, which must be alive to trigger the traps to close and ...(Answered by AWOL) |

Actually, that is too much humidity. You need to start aclimating your plant to the environment that you intend to grow it in. The fact that you say the sides of the container has condensation all over it is a sign that the humidity is too high. This not only keeps potential meals out, but will encourage fungus and mold to grow. High humidity is a myth that has been associated with carnivorous plants for too long. They will thrive in humidity levels of 45% and lower. Go to this site http://www.cobraplant.com There you will find care sheets for ...(Answered by nevels65) |

bringing venus fly trap out of dormancy?
has anyone done this before? because ohio is too cold during the winter to leave out side, you are actually suppose to but the plant in a baggie, and place it in your fridge (similar to their native carolina climate in the winter)
i took 'em out a few days ago, and placed him under a 10 gallon fish tank light (doesnt say wattage) but he's not looking good. none of the traps made it through the winter.
if anyone has done this before, i've read up on it (a lot), but need some detailed things from actually keepers. if your ... (Asked by hc8719) |

The plant should respond shortly. Before it wakes up I would check the rhizome to make sure that it is healthy and white. If it is mushy the plant is probably dead. These are hardy plants though. I grow mine in an artificial bog outside so they can do their thing naturally. The light is a good thing. The brighter the better. I use two twin 40 watt lights for all my indoor plants. Just try to mimic the changes that come at springtime. Gradually increase the light exposure until they are getting eight to ten hours a day. This ...(Answered by nevels65) |

They need full sun, damp roots, and high humidity, but most importantly they need soft acidic water. Only use distilled or rain water to water them. A higher pH or too many minerals in the water will kill them. Also, only feed them occasionally, as over feeding can also do them in....(Answered by Desert Rat) |

Help with my venus fly trap!?
I have had my venus fly trap for about 6 months now, but since I have had it the shoots are constantly dying once they have grown long. New shoots are constantly growing but I don't understand why they keep dying? I am following the care instructions when looking after it. At first I thought it was just the really hot weather causing the shoots to die but now winter is here it is still the same.
Further more, I have noticed tiny little bugs - about the size of a pin head - crawling all over the soil. What ... (Asked by psych_78) |

Well i do work at a botanical garden in south Carolina currently so i may help you. A Venus flytrap dies after 2-4 phases of eating so each time u make it close falsely it will bring it closer to death. I suggest keeping it at an 80-85 temperature without sunlight for a while. Most bugs are attracted to the scent but are more attracted to a light source if it is outside, BRING IT IN and at night cover it up.
If the shoots get long they are only trying to produce blossoms if u cut off the longer ...(Answered by ) |

sounds like you have everything in check...the Venus Fly Trap will not be as in "little shop of horrors" the best that you can do is feed it weekly, keep it VERY moist with preferably rain water and give it as much sunlight (direct) as you can...other than that forcing the growth produces weak plants....(Answered by James J) |
