How do I build an outdoor drying tray for chilli peppers and tomatoes?
I have an out-of-control garden that is putting out tomatoes and peppers to no end. I would like to take advantage of this and dry some out to use in dishes this winter, and have done research to try to find out how to build a drying tray, but nobody seems to like explaining it clearly. Anyone able to help? Thanks!

To sucessfully dry tomatoes is you need to remove the seeds from them before trying to dry them. But, For making a drying rack take 2 window screens and place the prepared vegis on one and place the second one over the vegis and the first screen. Clamp the screens closed with several of those big black paper clips like you get at office supply stores. place in the sun and let dry.
However, I dry my vegis in the oven set at 150 F. I seed my tomatoes and slice them into thin strips then when dry put the ...(Answered by David H) |

Does the color of the tray in the microwave affect how much heat it gets?
"Title". I have to do a science fair project and I was staring at a paper tray used to cook our dinner. I had noticed that it was changing time-to-time. First, it was black now it is white. (This is like frozen foods at Wal-Mart. You know how Black absorbs more heat. I was wondering if it was the same principle with the color of the tray?
Thanks for helping!

The energy in a microwave is not in the visible (or near-visible) spectrum, so the color doesn't matter. The same thing is true in an oven or on a cooktop--the color of a baking dish doesn't affect the energy absorption.
When visible or near-visible light (such as from the sun) hits a surface and is not reflected, it is absorbed, which is why darker (less reflective) colors get hotter.
The only question for a microwave is the reflectivity of the surface to microwave radiation--which is likely independent of color....(Answered by Remy) |

Traditionally, a Relish try was to stimulate the appetite before the guests sat down to a meal, the key was that most things on a proper relish tray were either pickeled or brined, the salty/vinegary taste making the person hungry and preparing the palet for the main meal......Usually, here's what I put on my relish tray at the holidays:
Marinated Mushrooms
Black Olives
Green Stuffed Olives
Gerkins (small sweet or dill pickels)
Marinated Artichoke hears, halved
Celery Sticks
Carrot Sticks
Sweet Cherry Peppers
Plenty of napkins and toothpicks and you're all set......a lot of people here are confusing a crudite plate (raw veggies) for a relish tray........Enjoy and I'm ...(Answered by Christopher K) |
