Sure, as long as the ballast is big enough to handle the wattage. That's basically the limiting factor. There should be a sticker on plate on the ballast (transformer) that tells what it's power capacity is. If that is greater than the wattage of the fluorescent tubes, then you can use that fixture. By the way - I saw the Tek T5 on eBay for $70 (buy it now) plus $20 shipping....(Answered by Paul in San Diego)

Filling waterbed tubes with air instead of water?
I have a softside tube waterbed. Assuming I didn't overfill the tubes, what would be the consequences of filling the tubes with air instead of water, specifically in regards to a tube popping? If not overfilled with air would a waterbed tube filled with air instead of water be more likely, less likely, or just as likely to pop? What are the diffrences between a bed designed to be filled with air, and one designed to be filled with water? ... (Asked by haveahellofaniceday)

Water is heavier so the tubes must be stronger, i.e. thicker wall. Otherwise all the other forces are the same, i.e. your body weight and activity exerts the same amount of force/stress upon the material regardless of what the medium is, water or air. Replacing the water with 100% air has its merits, but the bed will not feel the same. All comes down to individual preferences. Bottom line is water containers are built STRONGER and are thus heavier. As far as I know, air beds don't have to have heaters as air is a ...(Answered by Dustoff)

I am pouring footings for my deck using 12" concrete tubes. Can I add the dry mix and just add water? HELP!!!! I have bought a deck kit from Menards. This kit included 9 - 12" concrete tubes and 45 bags of 60lb concrete mix. The tubes take 5 bags a piece to fill to the 48" height. I also need to install a concrete anchor at the top of each tube so I can install the 4" x 4" post anchor. I know I do not need footings that deep (48") but I want to use up all the concrete ... NOT a good idea to try mixing the concrete in the forms - as pointed out, rent a mixer so that you are sure of getting a uniform, strong concrete for your footings. You can, however, leave the cardboard forms in place if you want to, just remove the part above ground. Be sure to let the concrete cure for at least 48 hours or better yet, 72 hours before putting any load on it. Keep the top surface wet after the initial water disappears. This will make the top of the footing strong so it ...(Answered by TitoBob)
