How to get rid of onion weed in our garden?
We are trying to bring our garden up to standard after previous owners lack of care. After digging up a small patch of dirt, and ridding the area of unwelcomed weeds, we now have onion weed growing happily. How deep do you have to go to get rid of this pest and what other suggestions do people have??

I foolishly introduced onion weed to the garden beds (and lawns) at my previous house. Best method I found (after trying lots of different things) was to put on a rubber glove, then a cotton glove on top, dip index finger (glove covered) into a small bottle or jar containing "neat weedkiller" (roundup, glyphosate or similar), then carefully run the onion weed leaf between your finger and thumb. If the problem is really bad, then gently rub the roundup wetted flat of your gloved hand over the area of onion weeds. Can be a bit arduous if the problem is ...(Answered by allyinminneapolis) |

How to control weed growth out of gravel?
I have medium sized rocks (sort of like gravel) in my front lawn and weeds keep growing out of it. Is there anything I can do to stop the weeds from coming out. I have tried those weedkillers from local department stores but they only control the weeds that have already grown out. Is there anyway to make it so that the accumulated soil will not be able to have weeds.
There is a layer of some sort of weed restricting material that is underneath when we first got the rocks. But it seems ... (Asked by dogtownbootleggers) |

Yes they are sprays and pellets that are for long term kill. Most contain Prometon, However they are several choices out there. Ranging from two to ten years. Dint bother with vinegar!!!!!
Here is two websites that sell these products. However you should be able to find them at a local farm supply.
Good luck

How do I get rid of Duck Weed that is taking over in my garden pond ?
I have a recirculating pump that is filtering the water and passing it through Barley Straw. This does not seem to have any effect on the growth of the weed but keeps the water chrystal clear.

I worked for the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for 4 years in their Aquatic Plant erradication division. There is a commercial chemical called REWARD which contains the active ingredient diaquat. Some places require a license to use this chemical and some only require a license if your body of water is connected to another navigatible waterway such as a river or stream. This chemical can be found at my local Lowe's, Walmart, and Home Depot but you will have to read the chemical labels to find it as REWARD is a commercial tradename. ...(Answered by supermontage1975) |

stinging nettle it's very brutal.
Most people who tromp through forests in the Pacific Northwest have, at one time or another, felt the reaction that stinging nettle causes on their skin. They often wonder which of the many green plants caused their white itchy bumps and assume it was poison ivy. In fact, Poison Ivy does not grow in temperate coastal rainforests and so, in most cases, the culprit is probably the stinging nettle, Urtica dioica.
Stinging Nettles are perennials that belong in the nettle family Urticaceae and have opposite leaves. They are common in coastal areas of BC, Washington and Oregon ...(Answered by ) |

What weed killer is best for vine-type weeds that grow up a chain-link fence?
I want something that will rid my fenceline of this annoying viney weed. It spreads quickly and I know if I didnt pull them out, they would take over the whole fence, as it did 20 years ago when my parents lived here. Should I use roundup? That really did a great job on ridding my yard of dandelions last year, with only one application to the roots of HUGE "systems" clumps of the lil effers.
see my other questions if you can help with more lawn/garden questions.

Round up will get the job done. Although it is a little strong for Dandelions. I use Ortho Weed-B-Gone and it does well without killing the grass.
I have seen people take a 6" wide piece of plastic, or rubber, or even brass and place it under the chain link fence. That way the grass and weeds won't grow and wrap around the fence, and there is no trimming either. You just run the lawnmower alongside the fence and it's all nice and neat. Big time saver. Think about it. good luck...(Answered by Fordman) |
